A Louisiana Christmas, December 3, 2004
This review is from: Jenny Giraffe Discovers Papa Noel (Jenny Giraffe Series) (Hardcover)
Jenny Giraffe, an artists, is all ready for the wonderful Christmas parade, as well as the joyous caroling, and the arrival of Papa Noel. However, all of this celebrating stuff is new to Jenny, for this is her very first Christmas. So her friends T-Boy, Angelle, Claude, and Lita begin informing her about the traditions of a Louisiana Christmas.
I will admit that I was first attracted to the cover illustration of JENNY GIRAFFE DISCOVERS PAPA NOEL, magnificently drawn by Andy Green. After all, who could possibly resist a gorgeous giraffe with huge blue eyes. However, the story by Cecilia Casrill Dartez quickly drew me in. I loved learning about the different celebrations people in Louisiana do in anticipation for Christmas, and Papa Noel, and I think young readers will enjoy learning about Louisiana traditions as well. Overall, this was a wonderful children's picture book, complete with a lesson in tradition.
