Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

Jensen's JPS12 PowerStation subwoofer features a massive, 12-inch cone woofer and 125 high-powered watts to drive the sound from your music or movies with wall-rattling oomph. Its continuously variable crossover (50 to 150 Hz) lets you tailor its upper-frequency output to match the lower-frequency limits of your other speakers.

Speaker-level inputs and outputs let you put the sub inline with your speakers (for stereo or home theater), while a line-level input is perfect for explicit use as the ".1" LFE (low-frequency effects) channel in a 5.1 surround setup.

When used in conjunction with smaller, bookshelf-type speakers, the subwoofer extends system capability to full-range frequency response, down to a respectable 33 Hz. With larger, floorstanding speakers, the sub helps shoulder the burden of reproducing low-frequency information.

It's not video shielded, so don't place it too close to a TV or computer monitor. If it's on the floor, though, it'll likely be far enough from your screen to negate any video distortion that might otherwise result from the speaker's magnet being too close to a monitor. A sleep circuit saves power by switching the sub to standby when no signal is present.

What's in the Box
Subwoofer, speaker grille, 4 wooden "feet," and a user's manual.

1.0 out of 5 stars I'd give it a 0 if I could, May 26, 2005
This review is from: Jensen JP12 12" Front Firing Powered Subwoofer, 130 Watts RMS (Electronics)
Mine makes the electronic farting noise at least once during every movie I watch and after it's turned off.

It is annoying and embarassing while having any friends over.

I can't believe anyone would rate this speaker higher than one because most of the time it works.

This isn't rocket science. A speaker should not ruin any movies by making loud random noises.

Avoid it like the plague.

1.0 out of 5 stars Stay Away, March 14, 2005

I too was interested in a cheap sub, and this seemed to fit the bill. I read about the farting noise when it went into sleep mode, and figured I could live with it. Well, maybe, but that's not the only issue I had.

The amp has two switch positions: "off" and "auto". It does not have an "always on" position, and this is a critical failure. At certain volumes, the auto-sensing "feature" will put the sub into power-save mode mid-song, overlaying the fart noise on top of the music. At this point, there's no bass, until the volume gets turned up, it senses the signal again, and it kicks back on.

In songs with quiet periods, or movies where explosions alternate with dialog, the sub turned itself on and off way too often - it was completely intolerable. I could hear a bass line, then it would be gone, replaced with the fart noise.

If you're cranking repetative industrial or techno, you won't have this problem, but users with other applications in mind should pony up an extra $23 for a better sub.

4.0 out of 5 stars You Get What You Pay For, February 22, 2005
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Jensen JP12 12" Front Firing Powered Subwoofer, 130 Watts RMS (Electronics)
I wanted this sub for the bedroom. I have a romping 12" Infinity for the living room and I am happy with it. I just needed a little something for when I'm laying in bed watching movies in the bedroom. This sub does the job. I use it primarily for movie watching. I cranked some little jon the other day and I heard it bottom out a few times but it's a jenson, and it's less than $100. It's better than most subs you get in those all-in-one theatre packages. Go for it if your use is light. Don't buy this for the center piece of your primary sounds system. Always spend the most money on your center channel and your sub; You'll never regret; if You don't you'll end up upgrading soon and spending more money.

This sub does what I want it to do. It does fart. I love it. My girlfriend hates it and wants me to return it to Amazon but I won't. That's the only negative about this product, and I don't feel negative about it... It makes me laugh!!! The farts are few and far between, and mine only makes that sound when the stereo and TV are turned off and the lights are out and I'm about to fall asleep... Then it rips one, hilarious.

Amazon returns policy is Awesome. I purchased that mini-Koss DVD player and had to return it, Amazon made that entire process seemless. Amazon gets an A+++.
