5.0 out of 5 stars great little transformer

1.0 out of 5 stars Terrible Product
I brought this converter to London with me. First off, it is way too heavy so it sags from the outlet and frequently falls out. In addition the prongs become bent because of the weight. I used this only a few times before it stopped working, not a clue why. When I buy another one I will be purchasing a different brand.

I had continuously used one of these Jensen 50W transformers for months before buying a few more to power various US-purchased appliances in Europe. These converters are lightweight and plug in nicely to the European sockets. These converters are only 50W, so users should carefully check the power requirments of their appliances. I'd highly recommend this converter for overseas use with small appliances. It's relatively small and lightweight making it a good choice for travel. However, it may not be a good option for someone who wants to use it with a hair dryer. For this you should opt for a dual wattage converter (i.e. one with 1600W). A good alternative is the Recoton which is also available on Amazon.

This small device worked flawless in France and UK for three weeks (using plug adaptors when needed) charging my Palm, digital camera and iPod. Excellent choice for the price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worked really well in Germany, May 5, 2007

I just went to Germany for a week, so I purchased this converter. I used it to charge my Nintendo DS, Cell Phone and Camera. Keep in mind that Germany uses 220 volts and not all products can run off that voltage. So before you buy this product, check that the items you are going to use specify that they run on 110 volts and less than or equal to 50 watts. If want to charge your labtop, then you probably don't need this item. You just need an adapter, but again, make sure to check the power requirements. All in all its a good product that does exactly what it says.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great product, April 30, 2009

This product worked very well up until I did not follow it's instructions. I started using it to recharge my laptop (65W) after my wall adapter broke (most laptops have a built in current converter box on their wall cable). After doing this a couple times, and the converter heating up a ton, the little fuse broke. So I replaced the fuse and it worked beautifully again.

Pros:
1. Fuse - means that if you misuse the product (exceed it's rated 50W), you can get a new fuse and it will work again
2. high quality product (though that means it's heavy)

Cons:
1. Unit is heavy

4.0 out of 5 stars Jensen European 50-Watt Travel Converter, February 29, 2008

I found that this converter was very affordable and suited my needs. One drawback to the converter is that sometimes I need to use an additional adapter with the converter because the entry port for the electrical outlet is very recessed releative to the wall and the converter body blocks the full entry into the outlet(despite the fact that the electric prongs were correct for the country). This is an unusual design feature for electrical outlets in certain countries/hotels, compared to US electrical outlets that are flush with the walls. So, I still need an additional electrical adapter to use this converter in certain situations.

Just back from a 2 week trip in Europe and had no problems with this adapter at all. Worked to keep all my gadget batteries charges. Probably only needed an adapter rather than a converter, but didn't want to chance it. The only downside is that this converter is heavy. It did add a bit of heft to my luggage.

3.0 out of 5 stars Well, It Worked Until..., July 8, 2008
This review is from: 50-WATT International Converter (Electronics)
I used it for charging my cel and my camera batteries in Israel... until I blew it trying to charge a laptop. PAY ATTENTION TO THE MAXIMUM WATTAGE! Nothing over 50 watts or you'll fry it. It'll overheat, but it won't create a puff of smoke like some of the other products I've been reading about.

I bought one for a trip to europe. It claims to be rated for up to 50W but it overheated and died while charging a netbook rated at a 40W draw.

It did successfully charge a digital camera and an Iphone with no overheating problems.
