Oil-free, liquid-free, and about as energy-efficient as a light bulb, this chrome-plated drying rack from Heatra adds a new dimension of comfort to your bath, changing room, or boat. The rack features Filatherm technology, a dry-element design that can be run 24 hours a day. You can use it to warm and refresh towels between showers, or to dry delicates, winter wear, and swimming gear after use. It’s also handy for adding gentle warmth to baby clothes and bedding. Warm-up time takes about 15 minutes, and the average temperature is 130 degrees F. Soft-wired and trim in profile, the unit mounts tidily to the wall or stands on the included U-shaped feet. A rocker switch controls power, and the construction is UL-listed. Fitted with a 7-foot power cord, the rack measures 37-1/2 by 24 by 12 inches free-standing. Basic assembly is required; all hardware and brackets are included. --Emily Bedard

I'd seen Warmrails in a store, and ended up at amazon looking for the cheapest model I could find. We had more towels than we had towel racks (a wife and three kids can do that to you), and my towel was rarely completely dry for my morning shower. I wanted, if nothing else, an extra free-standing towel rack to put it on to air dry. So I tried this.

It worked better than I expected. Not only is my towel dry each morning for my shower, but when we put two other towels on it after the kids have a bath, they're dry by morning as well! Three towels, folded (so there's a six-towel thickness) neatly over the top of the rack will dry just fine in just 8-12 hours -- and the innermost towel ends up nice and toasty warm (the outtermost will basically be room temperature, maybe just slightly warmer on the half that's closest to the rack, but all three will be completely dry).

Some reviewers were disappointed their towels weren't toasty-warm -- in that case, I'd suggest a higher-priced model with denser heating elements, or putting extra towels on top and using from the inside. The manual does point out that how well it works will vary according to where you put it in your home -- in particular they recommend against any drafty places. Ours is in the master bedroom, just outside the master bath, and even with a ceiling fan on at times, it seems to do just fine.

All in all, it's more expensive than a towel rod from the local home store, but you don't have to attach it to the wall (a plus for me, as I didn't know where I'd put it if it weren't free standing). It's also probably cheaper on the electric bill (and easier) than dropping towels in the dryer each day.

I was very disappointed with the Warm Rails. The only thing that was warm was the 1 inch space of the towel on the top of the rail. I left it warming overnight, no improvement. I would not recomend this product to anyone who desires warm towels.

I bought this towel warmer as a gift for my husband and was horribly disappointed with it as was he. The bar got very warm while the towel stayed nice and cool. We even tried the suggestions of putting several towels on it at a time, this too failed. This product may be okay if you're looking for a drying rack but don't be fooled in to thinking that it will warm your towels.

Some said the thing did not work. They either don't know how to use it or have a bad one. Mine works Great!!! As for cheaper at another store, yea, but by the time you pay tax, gas to go get it, it works out to the same price and this one is delivered to your door!! Great gift and deal.

It dries towels quickly, and makes them toasty warm. I've used two giant bathsheets from Pottery Barn, which are thick, extremely large towels, folded over several times, and they only become warm in certain places, but they dry much faster than they normally would on their own. When it's two regular or large bath towels, it works even better. The warm rails become a bit hot, so you need to be careful, especially if you have pets that can get close to it. It also warms up the bathroom (being in the North East, that's a plus to me!). Definitely better than not having it. They do require a bit of floor space. We have two - one in the City and one in weekend house in the mountains; it's a lifesaver up there.

I got this about a week ago. I use this everyday to prevent towels from smelling like mildew. In winter, the towel seems to take forever to dry after shower, which often results in that foul smell. I don't think it "warms" the towel too well (barely lukewarm at best), but it does dry a wet towel pretty effectively. Prior to getting this warmer, I washed all towels after 2 showers, but now the towels smell clean and fresh longer. So don't buy it to use it as a "warmer," you may be disappointed. But it would be good to use as a dryer. And, oh yeah, I wish it were a bit smaller in size. It takes up quite a bit of space. Happy shopping!

I agree that this is not a great towel warmer. It may suffice as a sweater or delicate clothes dry rack, but fails miserably with towels. You'd be better off to stick your towel in the clothes dryer for a couple of minutes to get it completely toasty. Also I found the same model at Bed, Bath & Beyond at $5 cheaper than Amazon...Merry Christmas

I read the rather variable reviews on the towel rail, and was initially hesitant, but decided to go for it and see how well the towel rail worked for myself.

It does its job reasonably well - the rail gets surprisingly very warm/hot (although not uncomfortably so to the touch). Where it contacts the towel, yes the towel is warm. Where there is no contact, a thick towel really doesn't warm up much. The best idea is to bunch up the towel around one or two of the rails.

I've put mine on the wall, and it's very stable with heavy towels loaded on it.

Essentially, if you want your entire towel to be cosy warm for after the shower, then this won't work for you - you need an airing cupboard with a water boiler/tank inside. If you want the towels to be a few degrees higher than room temperature, or dry some clothes quickly, then this probably will work for you.
