This book is a part of the College Press NIV Commentary series and is a very good resource for teaching, preaching and small group leading well as for personal Bible study. The commentary is in depth but not so scholarly and academic it becomes hard to read. It is easily read and understood by anyone at any level, even at the high school and junior high levels.

The book has an introduction, outline and bibliography for further study for each book. The commentary text is in the traditional verse by verse format. All comments are based on the NIV text, which is not included in the book. The writing is thorough and clearly stated. There are footnotes for further explanation of certain ideas and important Hebrew words are explained in the text. The Hebrew words are shown in the Hebrew alphabet and spelled phonetically for those of us who haven’t studied Hebrew.

There are some special studies throughout the study of Jeremiah, The Lord’s Covenants with Israel, The Oracles against the Nations and Modern Interpretations and the similarities between Jeremiah 52 and 2 Kings 25.

This book will be most valuable to someone who is teaching and is limited in budget and time.

The publisher, College Press, also published the Bible Study Textbook series which is now out of print and can be downloaded for free from the publisher's website in pdf form
