As with many other Jerry Baker books, this one is filled with unique recipes that are easy to make. He also gives out a variety of tips on gardening in general, and then on a variety of plants. The scope of this book is broad as he covers getting your beds ready, chosing what to plant, what to plant next to each other, and how to keep your garden growing well. He also tells you how to harvest, store your veggies, and he even tells you how to cook some of the items that come out your garden.
I really like his take on growing, simple solutions work best. I have benefitted from many of his homemade recipes for a variety of gardening concerns. This book covers a lot of area, it doesn't cover anything too deeply, so its a great choice if you are trying to pick up new ideas and tips in general. This is an easy read, and well worth it if you are trying to better your gardening skills.

This book seemed to offer a few good recipes for homemade solutions as far as insecticides, herbicides, etc., but.....This has got to be the absolute most disorganized book I have ever read.
My advice is, look for something else more organized. You'll be so glad you did. Especially when you have a problem and need an immediate answer on what to do.

This book has a good table of contents and a good index - makes it easy to find an answer to a question. The book is very informative and provides the reader easy to follow instructions on various types of gardening questions.

I bought into the hype that this book was the garden/lawn cure all, but it is not. A lot of repeats throughout the book, I tried several of the tips & none seemed to work. This is stuff that was dug up from the past. "Old Wives tales" if you will.
The price of the book is way overpriced. If you can find a used copy for sale, that would be the way to go, if you just have to try it.
Best thing to do, is save your money for something more useful.

Has anyone actually went beyond reading this book and actually put the remedies to use in their own gardens? Jerry Baker is a gardening quack. His so-called remedies have been disproved by university horticulturists time and time again. I am a real, certified master gardener, and I can tell you that some of his recipes can actually hurt your plants, your soil and your body.

I would read this book even if I didn't have a garden! It is more than informative. I feel like I am listening to a favorite uncle telling stories of the good ol" days and how things were done simply and effectively. I love this book and highly recommend it. -Mary

some good info on natural remidies but you need to get through all of the 'cute' riddles and hokey sayings to get there. I do enjoy a little 'quip' now and then for a fun read but this book is kind of like a preschoolers guide to potions. A little too much goofyness for some needed garden information.

Great book! A gradening book with humor and great "old-fashion" advice that actually works. What more can you want from a book. Easy to read, fun to read and very informative. I recommend it highly!

I have been able to treat a lot of the challenges from poor soil condition to bugs and viruses on my brand new and very first attempt to grow a vegetable garden using the suggestions and solutions in this book. It has been a real eye opener for me how most of the challenges from pest control to soil treatment have proven and simple solutions using common and safe household remedies!

I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to grow a great garden the natural way.

any jerry baker book is a five star. we live by him.
