Jerry Garcia Guitar Chord Book,

This review is from: Jerry Garcia Songbook: His Solo Repertoire (Paperback)
This song book is good for what it is... a guitar chord book. If you are looking only for chords and the melody lines, lyrics, etc., you can find that in this book (or in numerous places online). There are a few riffs that are outlined with some songs, and are fun to play. However, if you are looking for guitar solos, solo ideas, or anything more than chords, skip it and look elsewhere.

Great song book for more than Garcia fans...,

I purchased this book because, looking at the contents, I recognized it as a compendium of Jerry Garcia's favorites and influences. Bottom line is that it's a wonderful collection of songs across a broad spectrum of styles. From Bob Dylan to R & B to traditional to, of course, a few select original Garcia-Hunter tunes, there's quite a bit to choose from. Those familiar with the Jerry Garcia Band's playlists will have fun with this edition. Those seeking the pure Grateful Dead experience will likely be disappointed wondering where all the Dead songs are. (There are plenty of Grateful Dead song books out there, so look elsewhere.) This is the other good stuff Jerry enjoyed playing while the Dead were off the road, and it is indeed very good stuff - and a whole lot of fun...

Great Companion to the Garcia/Hunter Songbook,
This review is from: Jerry Garcia Songbook: His Solo Repertoire (Paperback)
This is a essentially a collection of the songs Jerry covered in his solo projects, with a few originals thrown in. Much easier to read than the Ice Nine "Anthology" songbook, as most all songs are kept to 2 pages, and are fairly accurate renditions. I understand that Robert Hunter had a lot of say in how these collections were presented, and if so, he did an excellent job.
Good for beginning and intermediate guitarists alike, this and the Garcia/Hunter Songbook are an excellent starting point for anyone looking to capture some of that Jerry magic. You'll have to be like ol' Jer and make up the solos yourself as you go, but these 2 songbooks will have you truckin' in the right direction.

Great for every dead head,
This review is from: Jerry Garcia Songbook: His Solo Repertoire (Paperback)
This book is awsome. Basically it is a bunch of covers but it gives dead heads the chance to play something that the common person might actuall know(how sweet it is, stir it up, shining star etc.)Great book, i recomend it

Disappointed,
By Dr. Forgetful (Charleston, SC) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Jerry Garcia Songbook: His Solo Repertoire (Paperback)
Although the book looks like it would be good, we have not been able to get a product that is properly put together. Pages are missing or pages are repeated over and over. After several tries, we have given up on this songbook.
