Editorial Reviews

Product Description

The name Jerry Lee Lewis has become synonymous with rock and roll, and the attitude that defines it. His awe-inspiring talent and wild man reputation have made him one of the most talked-about entertainers in history. The Jerry Lee Lewis Chronicles features the full-length raw interviews that were shot in 1987 for the authorized documentary Jerry Lee Lewis: I Am What I Am (which is also included in this set, in its entirety). This historical collection of interviews from the producers archives provides a rare snapshot and insight into the life of The Killer . Interviews were conducted with those who were closest to Jerry Lee, and those who witnessed the events that shaped this incredible musician, vivacious man, and legendary persona.

Among those interviewed are the people who were with Jerry Lee from the beginning at Sun Records (Sam Phillips, Jack Clement), Jerry Lee's fellow pioneers from the early days of rock and roll (Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, Joe B. Mauldin), broadcasters who gave Jerry Lee his first exposure on TV and radio (Dick Clark, Steve Allen, Wink Martindale), legendary songwriters (Mae Axton, Otis Blackwell), music industry insiders (Shelby Singleton, Jerry Kennedy), friends and fellow superstars (Tom Jones, Randy Bachman), family members (including country star Mickey Gilley), and many more. And of course, we'll hear from The Killer himself.

Also included on these interactive discs are factoids from Jerry Lee's life and times, biographies of those who were interviewed, and bonus live performances of Breathless , Another Place, Another Time , Great Balls of Fire , and Whole Lotta Shakin Going On.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best of Bio films, February 23, 2008
By H.B. Beverly (Myrtle Beach, SC) - See all my reviews
Everyone has a different opinion I suppose when it comes to the Killer, but if you're a serious fan of the man and his music, then you MUST have this video, as it is the most well-done film on his career up through 1988, when it was filmed. It's heart-breaking at some points, as it tells of the deaths of his sons, and other family members, with testimony from band members and friends who were there with him when the bad news came.

On the other hand, you'll thrill for his moments of glory when he was pronounced the King of Rock and Roll in London, Eng., prior to his fateful visit there with Myra in 1958. Also, when he re-took the Country charts in 1968-77 with hit after hit. There are great film clips from rare footage, some only seen here. I've watched this video probably around 15 times, and I still enjoy seeing it every time!

5.0 out of 5 stars FANTASTIC! FOR THE KILLER FAN!!!!!!!!!!, April 19, 2009
This is an incredible buy for the Jerry Lee Lewis super-fan! It's not a performance based DVD, it's the entire interviews from the documentary, "I am What I am" ('89?).

Here we have the full interviews from family, colleagues, and friends from the music industry. Curiously, this DVD is missing the interviews with Jimmy Swaggart, but everything else is there.

Again, if you're looking for performance footage this will disappoint you (as there are only four previously unseen performances). However, on top of all the interviews, we also get the full documentary.

A GREAT buy at an unbelievable price!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1.0 out of 5 stars boring, February 14, 2008
Unless you collect J.L.L merchandise pass on this. This has alot of dvd's but it's all just interviews. The 4 concert songs are awful and notworth wathing once.I was really dissapointed with this collection.I don't believe anyone wants to set around and listen to 4 plus hours of interviews inwhich they say the same thing over and over and over.

1.0 out of 5 stars Jerry Lew Lewis Chronicles - totally boring
What a huge disappointment this DVD set is. 5 DVDs running three minutes short of 8 hours and all you get is talking heads, except for four "never-before-seen" song performances... Read more
