5.0 out of 5 stars ROCK AND F-ING ROLL, March 27, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Jersey's Best Dancers (Audio CD)
I had the opportunity to see these guys play when they opened for Good Riddance (along with Screw 32)... They blew Good Riddance away. I go to Good Riddance shows these days just to see what band is going to blow them away next, but anyway... Lifetime was introduced to me at that show. I picked up Hello Bastards and fell in love (their earlier stuff didn't really do it for me). When Jersey's Best Dancers came out I was elated, and upon listening to it, was overjoyed to find it just as outstanding as Hello Bastards. I've been into punk rock for 13 years or so and it's becoming increasingly harder for me to find bands I like and the ones I've liked for a long time are all broken up and not making new records for me to enjoy. I was heartbroken when I found out they had disbanded... just when they were getting good and just when I thought I found a new band to love. Lifetime rocks. Everybody I've played them for has loved them. Get it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lifetime is the best NJ has to offer, March 27, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Jersey's Best Dancers (Audio CD)
Lifetime is definitely the best punk band to come out of NJ. The first time I listened to this cd I didn't get so into it, but the more and more I listened to it the more and more it grew on me. I can't wait to buy the rest of Lifetime's albums. What a shame I didn't catch on to them earlier....

5.0 out of 5 stars 90's emotional hardcore at its best., December 21, 2004
By
This review is from: Jersey's Best Dancers (Audio CD)
This album, over the years, has meant more to me than almost anything. I can remember the summer between my freshman and sophomore year of college. I was interning at a company and a lady gave me a Tower gift card for my help. I went and bought this CD. This was in 1997 and I've listened to this album on a weekly if not daily basis since then!!! I can remember my sophomore year of college having my heart broken by a girl and going home and popping this CD in. It was almost like Ari knew how I was feeling. If I'm in the right mood, this album still brings tears to my eyes. (Go ahead and call me an "emo pu%@y." Hey, I have played in "tough guy" hardcore bands and I'll still admit this. haha.)

Imagine the perfect hardcore punk band complete with emotion, energy, sincerity, and catchiness and you still wouldn't come close to lifetime. I only wish bands that meant this much to me were still around.

Oh and to the kid who said that Saves The Day didn't rip off Lifetime...have you ever heard Saves The Day's "Can't Slow Down" album? If that album isn't a BLATANT ripoff of "Jersey's Best Dancers" then I don't know what is.

5.0 out of 5 stars easily the best punk band of all time, August 1, 2000
This review is from: Jersey's Best Dancers (Audio CD)
all i can say about this band is wow. they play a extremely fast paced, aggressive punk rock with emoish lyrics(dont tell hardcore kids that they will kill ya). they have the ability to start a song off at the fastest most amazing tempo and then just slow it down to a groovish brake down. this cd doesnt have a bad song on it. its one of the few cds i have that i can listen to all the way through without skiping a song. if you are a punk rock kid who listens to saves the day, grey area, or kid dynamite(the guitarist from kid dynamite was in lifetime and wrote most of the music) buy this lifetime cd and hello bastards. Those two cds influenced those three bands as well as many others. if you like those lifetime cds a lot try out there other two, background and seven inches, they are much more hardcore but still good.

5.0 out of 5 stars essential!, December 5, 1999
By
This review is from: Jersey's Best Dancers (Audio CD)
somewhere in between the aimlessness of emo/spunk and the angst-ridden system that is "real punk" nowadays i picked up the punk uprisings comp and found a song called "young, loud, and scotty" by lifetime that blew me away... never before had i heard emotion like that, and i had to have the cd, cause i knew it would be an awakening. it was, and this was the cd. i waited for it to come for weeks, and it was worth it. this is punk with love. its sweet - but with an edge that keeps you involved; full of energy that so many bands just don't have. you can tell that lifetime was putting everything they had into their band- i just wish they hadn't self-destructed before i dared to stop listening to mxpx in my room in the summer of 1998 and risked seeing punk as more than a mode of complaint but as a way of life.

Lifetime is beautiful. There is nothing more I can say about Ari, Dan and all the other kids. I regret that I was never able to see them at a show but I plan to track Ari down and marry him some day. Anyway, this is a musical masterpiece and if you don't get the chance to listen to this record or Background, you have missed out. Enjoy them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply the best!, September 8, 2005
This review is from: Jersey's Best Dancers (Audio CD)
I picked this album up used about 8 years ago, and after listening to it I asked one question. "Who the hell would sell this CD?" selling this album is the equivalent of selling a human soul! For the next 8 years this album along with "Hello Bastards" have had a helping hand in molding me as a person and individual. People have forgotten the days when Saves the Day were nicknamed "Jersey's Second Best Dancers" because of there unapolgetic Lifetime impersonation in the early days of that band.

Starting with the thundering "Turnpike Gates" and ending with the simple and honest "Verona Kings" this album will change anybody who takes the time to listen to it. Yemin's amazing musical sense and Ari's heartfelt words are the perfect complimant to eachother.

Despite being arround for many years before there demise the lineup that would become the best band of the 1990's was only together for a short period of time and only got to put out two albums. Both of which would change music forever. Last month the band did 3 reunion shows for charity, I got the privlage of seeing the last one, and it was easilly the greatest show I've ever been too, and I've seen a million shows! If you don't own this record, buy it now!

5.0 out of 5 stars monumental...to say the least, September 8, 2005
By
Marcus Daly (Lake City, FL, USA) - See all my reviews

This CD, this band itself is definitely one of the most influential and monumental bands in recent time. Showing lyrical and moral comparison to bands like Braid, Rites of Spring, and Sunny Day Real Estate, Lifetime plays simple, straigh-forward, honest music. Honesty is the one thing most bands seem to be missing lately, and it's also the element that seems to separate the good bands from the great bands. I'm in a band myself, and I'd have to say Lifetime is one of if not the greatest influence we've had. Buy this cd or anything from Lifetime! It will surely last that long.

5.0 out of 5 stars will never get old, May 9, 2005
This review is from: Jersey's Best Dancers (Audio CD)
rarely you come across a cd that will stay with you your entire life. this is one of those cd's. this record is a classic, pure and simple. back when it came out I thought they had broken up. I didn't even know this album was coming out. when I opened the packaging and saw the "exit" sign printed on the disc, I knew it was over. but what a way to go out!

luckily I got a chance to see lifetime open for the bouncing souls at the trocadero in philly. they should have headlined. they opened with "turnpike gates" then launched right into "young, loud and scotty." absolutely unbelievable.

this isn't a live review, so as far as records go, this is all you need to know... since 1997 I've been looking for something, anything that could match the sincerity and intensity of "jersey's best dancers." I'm not sure it exists anywhere else.

those who know lifetime's music will forever be hoping for a chance to see them play live again. at least we have the music and it's among the best to ever come out.

5.0 out of 5 stars not a review..., January 22, 2005
This review is from: Jersey's Best Dancers (Audio CD)
just wanna say that the reviewer about five down from this is a moron. "Punk, although having many different types, offers few bands which are actually worth listening to. Most sound the same and don't really do anything special."
Eric Angle please keep your ignorant comments to yourself
PS this is a great cd, pick up a copy.
