A Priceless Collection of Photos,
By Sister Mary (Midwest) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Jerusalem in Original Photographs (Hardcover)
This is a book for those who have a love for Jerusalem and it's history. If you fit this description, read on. If you have no affinity for this glorious piece of real estate that the Bible calls the 'center of the world', then I don't think you will give it the attention it deserves. But if you love Jerusalem and recent history, and have visited the place, I highly recommend this book. I have been to Israel several times and have recently gotten my bearings in Jerusalem, with its endless nooks and crannies and oddball sense of direction. Since 1948 and the resettlement of the Jews there, Israel has seen some remarkable changes, thanks be to the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and prophecy fulfilled. But prior to that time, there was a population that lived and died and made their livlihoods within the walls of the Old City. The opportunity to see their culture and the different angles and vistas of this great city at that time is very enlightening and fun. Yes, a lot has changed but in a sense nothing much has changed as I compare my own recent photos to these of the Victorian era in the Old City. Westerners think they know what an antique is, but you have to visit the Middle East to really appreciate OLD! Well worth the price.
