4.0 out of 5 stars I named my first daugher Jessamy after this book...., May 4, 2001
By
Lisa Rogers (Seattle, WA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Jessamy (Hardcover)
I read this book from the library at the age of 10 or 11, I am now 39 and I re-read it every year after I actually got/owned the book when I was 19 (I didn't forget about this book all thoughs years). It was the first time-travel book I had ever read. Jessamy, an orphan, that lives between aunts goes from 1967 (I think because that was the copywrite date of the book) back to 1914 and is suddenly a shy, quite Jessamy living with a family as a servants niece. The 1967 Jessamy is not shy or quite and people notice although they don't know why she changes. It is assumed that the 1914 Jessamy goes forward in time although it is not talked much about in the book. (I think that might be a good sequel). There is a mystery and it is solved at the end. My daughter (Jessamy) is now 10. I am going to have her read it this summer. I really enjoyed that book I have read lots of better written books since then but the time-travel and the name Jessamy really held my interest. The ending is very cool and kind of strange.

5.0 out of 5 stars Jessamy, April 11, 2005
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Jessamy (Hardcover)
I am 10 years old and Jessamy by far is the best book I have ever read! I almost feel like I know Jessamy. It all started when my aunt gave me the book just to read, it looked old and beat up. I took the book home with me, read it, and I thought WOW! this is the best book I have ever read! I wish I could read more about Jessamy, I wish it was a series. If Jessamy was a real person, I'd do anything possible to meet her. I rate Jessamy a five-star book!

5.0 out of 5 stars A classic--mystery, time travel and a very real heroine!, November 1, 2011
This review is from: Jessamy (Knight Books) (Paperback)
Like many of the other people who reviewed here, I also read the book as a child (in New Zealand, around the age of 10 or so) and I have never forgotten it! I was excited to

see others had loved it as much. Barbara Sleigh was a British author, and I enjoyed some of her other books, too. ("No One Must Know", "Carbonel", etc.) But "Jessamy" is the

best of them all. I loved the heroine and found it very exciting when she went back in time to be the 'other' Jessamy from days gone by. Now I want to get it for my

own daughters.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love Jessamy(e), July 14, 2003

Amy Lavelle (Baldwinsville,NY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Jessamy (Hardcover)
When I read Lisa Rogers' review of Jessamy, I had to write one of my own. I also read Jessamy when I was around 10 years old. I shared with Jessamy the magic and mystery of the nursey cupboard. I went with her on her journey of adventure as she travelled back in time to solve the mystery of a missing rare book. I was so taken with the story and its young heroine that I declared to my mother that someday I was going to have a baby and name her Jessamy. In the fall of'97 I learned that my second child was going to be a girl. As we were throwing around names, Mom said,"What about that name you liked from that book you read?" That was it. We took some liberties and changed the spelling to Jessame. A copy of Jessamy sits on a shelf in my daughter's room. I reread it, 20 years later, as I rocked my newborn. I enjoyed it as much as an adult as I had as a child and I look foward to sharing this wonderful story with my Jessame in the future.
