This book presents a clear and accurate portrayal of a black woman writer. Sylvander illustrates Fauset as a black woman who defied the traditional expectations of a society and who wrote with an awareness of racial and sexual themes.

This review is from: Jessie Redmon Fauset: Black American Writer (Hardcover)
This book, Sylvander's published dissertation, is the most comprehensive look at Jessie Redmon Fauset's life and work. Sylvander uncovers many of the hidden facts about Fauset's background as well as delving as deeply into her body of literature as possible. I highly recommend it for serious students of Fauset and the Harlem Renaissance.
