This book was a happy find tonight. For those looking for a book depicting coastal life in the Pacific Northwest, this book is an excellent choice. I enjoyed reading the cousin's letters to one another. The boy's letter in which he comments on how boring life must be on an island, followed by the girl's response, detailing how she sees them enjoying the beach and water together if he should choose to visit. The writing is complimented by stunningly beautiful watercolors featuring views familiar to those who live here, and includes the birds and mammals often seen: eagles, harbour seals, killer whales, a minke whale, otters, oyster catchers, plovers, sandpipers, sea gulls, kingfishers, coots, mergansers, herons loons, and harlequins. Published in 1992, it received "The Canadian Children's Book Centre Choice" Award.
