About the Author

Mindy MacDonald graduated from the University of Oregon with a degree in kinesiology. But it wasn’t until she took a job at a local Christian bookstore that she discovered her passion for books. Mindy’s gift for storytelling was further cultivated when she worked as an elementary school education assistant, and she has since taken classes in writing children’s literature. Mindy and her husband are motivated by bringing God glory through their writing and musical talents. They make their home in New Jersey with their two cats, Jack and Charlie.

This is a great book that explains in a few sentences what each disciple was known for. It also rhymes. I think it's a good way to sneak a little kingdom knowledge into friends or family members. For example, I bought a kids bible for my cousin once and my Aunt learned about the bible from reading to her son. I'm buying several copies of this book and giving it to friends that have children, but might not know much about Jesus and His disciples.

My little ones like this book. Each disciple is portrayed individually. An earlier reviewer didn't like the word "dude" and wondered why it was used. I'd say probably because kids might relate to the term better than "apostle" or "disciple". Whatever, it's cute and a good way to present these men who gave up everything to follow Jesus.

Good gift this time of year.

My children love this book. Having the faces pop out at you was a real treat. I would suggest the book for age 3 and over.

This book gets the children's attention...and keeps names in their minds.

What an awesome book to read to children. It really gets the point across. I think it is especially helpful for the preschool age.

We own almost all of the God Counts series, and our daughter loves the raised images. Unlike 7 Days of Creation and 9 Fruits Alive (which we read all the time, to the point where the pages are getting a bit ragged), this particular one does not hold her interest as much. I'm not sure why...hopefully she will enjoy it when she gets older.

The one complaint I do have - the book should start with one disciple and add one or two per page until all 12 appear, similar to 7 Days of Creation. Having the disciples disappear after reading about them is a little strange... Otherwise, the books are made very well and will hold up to years of use. Would highly recommend this series to anyone who has a young toddler who loves touch and feel books. The content is summarized in a simplistic manner, and would definitely allow your child to grow with the book as they get older, learning to read while learning more about the Bible. On a side note - I love the title :)

Book is good. Heads stick a bit when turning the pages. Also is advanced for my grandson who just turned three, but I am sure we will be reading it often in the future.
