Book Description

October 20, 2005
When Kent Keith put his ten timeless principles-first articulated when he was a college student in the 1960's-and their philosophy into book form, this modern credo for doing good anyway became a sensation. In the wake of Anyway, the author returns to present an important and inspiring new book illustrating the Paradoxical Commandments through Bible stories and verse.

Kent Keith found himself asked by Christians across the country how his Paradoxical Commandments relate to the Christian faith. In Jesus Did It Anyway, he draws from Bible stories from the Old and New Testaments, as well as personal anecdotes, to connect the Paradoxical Commandments with scripture, paving the way for Christians everywhere to deepen their understanding of his timeless principles.

Each chapter contains inspiring stories-some from scripture, some from Keith's own experiences-illuminating each of his Commandments by examining how Jesus and other biblical figures lived their faith. Despite facing tremendous adversity, they flourished and were divinely blessed. In Jesus Did It Anyway, Christians can learn how answering Jesus' call to live a paradoxical life can lead to deep happiness and personal meaning.

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

The Paradoxical Commandments took on a life of their own after Keith wrote them as a Harvard sophomore more than 30 years ago. They became almost a law unto themselves for doing good despite people and circumstances. They were used by religious leaders across the globe, including Mother Teresa, to illustrate truths found in the Christian Bible. Now Keith writes his third book on the Paradoxical Commandments, this time relating them to Christian faith and the Bible. Keith, a person of faith himself, knows that people search for meaningful lives, and he uses his Paradoxical Commandments to help provide such meaning. Each chapter lists the commandment, then draws on a teaching of Jesus or other figures in the Christian Bible to help explain it. He uses the biblical stories of the prodigal son, David, Moses, Job and the "good Samaritan," among others, to illustrate the commandments. Keith's presentation is simple and straightforward, his links between each commandment and the Bible easy to understand if a bit obvious. This is a pleasing introduction to the Paradoxical Commandments, as well as an easy-to-swallow introduction to the Christian Scriptures. Study guides for each chapter move into deeper discussion and reflection. (Oct.)

5.0 out of 5 stars Becoming more Christ-like, March 29, 2006

This review is from: Jesus Did It Anyway (Hardcover)
I am always looking for new and inspiring ways to improve my life. I found Kent Keith's message in his new book very influencing. If more people were to follow these "commandments", the world would be a kinder place in which to live. This book brought to mind the things we can do to becoming more Christ-like. It was easy to read and I liked the examples from Christ's life that helped to solidify the "commandment" in my mind.

5.0 out of 5 stars Publishers Weekly is right -, March 28, 2006

This review is from: Jesus Did It Anyway (Hardcover)
The book is a great introduction to Christian Scripture. It provides a practical, interesting way of understanding the great stories and teachings of the Bible. I'm not a regular church-goer, and I'm not sure I would call myself religious, but this book is straight forward and makes sense of the Bible and the teachings of Jesus in a way that I have never seen before, inviting us to live the paradoxical life that Jesus did.
