5.0 out of 5 stars Still one of the best
When this album came out in 1995 it really marked a change for dc Talk and Christian music as a whole. dc Talk "Jesus Freak", though they flirted with rock especially on the preceding album "Free at Last", marked a great blend of 90s alternative rock and R&B. 5.0 out of 5 stars Still one of the best, December 26, 2006
This review is from: Jesus Freak 10th Anniversary Special Edition (Audio CD)
When this album came out in 1995 it really marked a change for dc Talk and Christian music as a whole. dc Talk "Jesus Freak", though they flirted with rock especially on the preceding album "Free at Last", marked a great blend of 90s alternative rock and R&B. Before this there weren't too many successful alt-rock Christian albums out there. The song "Jesus Freak" though with blatant Christian lyrics played on alternative radio stations across the country and the hit "Between You N Me", which is a song that deals with resolving conflict, was a pretty big hit in the secular market that I still hear played on alternative radio to this day. Another stand out dealing with race issues "Colored People" is a signature dc Talk song featured on this CD.

Most of you who are looking into getting this album probably have or have had the previous release from the 90s. I think you should consider buying this version. The sound is much crisper than it is on the 90s version and the bonus tracks/remixes are fun to listen to. I am really glad they included the hard to find remix of "Jesus Freak" that was found on the original "Jesus Freak" single. It is a hip hop mix which pretty much shows how the song "Jesus Freak" would have sounded if the song was recorded in their R&B days. As of this writing I haven't had the chance to read all the way thru the liner notes but from what I read it gives a fun/informative history of this historical album. It is also amazing that this album was recorded over 10 years ago and it still sounds current and fresh!

Hope this helps.

5.0 out of 5 stars As Good As It Gets, January 15, 2007

Like the original Jesus Freak album, the 10th Anniversary Special Edition is superb. I think that it may well be the greatest album in the history of rock music. At the very least, it is the best album in the annals of Christian rock.

This is a two disc collection. The first CD has the same contents as the original 'Jesus Freak' album. The sound quality is a bit better due to technological improvements presumably. Disc two contains several remixes of some of these songs. I personally don't like most of the remixes as well as the originals, but they are fun to have for a serious dc Talk fan. There is also a version of U2's '40' that I think is better than the original.

If you don't have the original 'Jesus Freak' album, I would say that this is a must have. If you do have it, this is still a good one to pick up just to enjoy some different takes on some of these songs.

5.0 out of 5 stars In a dc talk fan's opinion . . ., January 24, 2007

First of all, I have to give it five stars because I am a hardcore dc talk fan. Can't help it, I just am that way. In light of the sound quality, style and remix content, it also deserves five stars.

HOWEVER, I must confess a slight disappointment. I had been looking forward to the 10th anniversary of Jesus Freak for a long time, especially after the 10th anniversary of Free At Last. Jesus Freak is the biggest Christian rock album of all time. No question about it. It revolutionized not just the Christian music industry, but the entire music industry as well. After all, Jesus Freak is one of the first albums to have blended rap with some hard guitars. So, in light of that thought, my shoulders shrunk a little bit when I found that the comemmoration to Jesus Freak would be only a 2-disc special edition with six new remixes. Now, the remixes are the best I've heard from any dc talk remix album (yes, that goes for Toby's remix albums of his two solo projects so far.) And if you are a hardcore dc talk fan and have bought all the singles, albums, remixes and so forth, the only music you haven't heard on this CD yet is the set of new remixes--and there's only six. (There's also the unreleased demo version of Mind's Eye featuring the "fourth member of dc talk," Mark Heimmerman.) Other than that, Jesus Freak (Gotee Bros. Freaked-Out Remix) has already been released; all the live performances have already been released; the instrumental version of In The Light has already been released.

But, of course, it's a must have for the dc talk fan. Still, though, a 2-disc edition doesn't do it justice. I mean, at least the 10th Anniversary of Free At Last had a feature film to go along with it!

If you have never heard of "DC Talk" or listen to any of their music I would highly recommend this music CD. It is a combination of their best songs, which are extremely good. Buy the CD and see for yourself. I know you won't be disappointed and, yes, I am a Jesus freak.

5.0 out of 5 stars STILL THE GREATEST CD EVER!!, December 26, 2006
This review is from: Jesus Freak 10th Anniversary Special Edition (Audio CD)
I bought it this morning. Only one copy and I paid $20.20 for it. So Help Me God remix is way cool cause the whole song the "ba-ba-ba-ba" is playing in the background over the lyrics. The remixes are all piano style but still sounds rock, it's wierd, cool, but super wierd. The reason those live songs and stuff are on there is cause there "out of print" so they through them on the cd. But hey the remastered version is well worth the money! It's SUPER LOUD NOW!

5.0 out of 5 stars Ten years and nothing's changed...well, it got better!!, January 6, 2007
This review is from: Jesus Freak 10th Anniversary Special Edition (Audio CD)
I wasn't really old enough when the original came out to appreciate the musicallity and spirituality in this CD. Now, however, I'm blown away! I know that everybody always says that this was the CD that revolutionized contemporary Christian music, I was doubtful until I lisened to it.
The first disk is the original album, only it's been remastered to make it even better!! The second disk is remixes that will blow your mind away!! Some of them I think are a slight improvement on the original! The only track I don't like in the whole 2-disk set is the unreleased demp version of Mind's Eye, in my opinion there was a reason it was an unreleased demo version!

I bought this CD the day it came out and I lisened to it for about two weeks straight!

Yours truely,

Adam Swords (Christian music specialist)
