3.0 out of 5 stars Inspiring but unsubstantiated
I love testimonies. I love listening to people I know - people I trust wont lie or mislead me - telling me about how God has worked in their lives and how God has come through for them. Testimonies build faith and hope.

I was really looking forward to reading this book for that reason. I wanted to hear the testimonies of Christians in horrific situations...

This is one of the most incredible collections of stories about people of FAITH and conviction I have ever read! Having never experienced persecution for my faith it is hard to read some of the detailed accounts of the trials and tribulations found in this book. My favorite portion of the book are the scripture references after each story. I also found the information about the persecution and death of Jesus' 12 disciples very interesting reading.

All Christians living in the United States should purchase and read this book. What a gift of freedom, mercy and grace Christ has given to the Church in America. We have it so easy. Read this book and discover the sacrifies that were made, and continue to be made, so Christians could know the life saving (and life changing) power of Jesus Christ. Perhaps after reading this book as the collection plate is being passed next Sunday, it will be a little easier to give a sacrificial gift to the Lord.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wake Up America!, January 28, 2000
By
This review is from: Jesus Freaks: Stories of Those Who Stood for Jesus The Ultimate Jesus Freaks (Paperback)
I strongly believe that one reason God is using this book is to open the eyes of Christians in America (like myself) and in other free countries: we probably have not experienced being tortured (or killed) for our faith like those who's stories are in this book. Even though we may never have to experience this, we should ask ourselves, do we love Jesus enough to refuse to deny him and to be willing to die for him? A martyr is not a martyr because he has died for his faith, but because he was so WILLING to die for his faith. My faith has been strengthened because of this collection of stories. Like for many others, this book, next to the Bible, is truly the best book I've ever read.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book is awesome and is not just for teenagers !, November 19, 1999

This book is awesome. Everyone should read it. Those that are searching and those that have deep faith. I do believe that it is great for teenagers (My 13 year old son will get a copy for Christmas) but I also thoroughly enjoyed it and believe me, my teenage years are far behind me. Everyone will enjoy this! The stories are short but thought provoking. They help you to realize what others have gone through in order to spread the word of God.

We are so blessed!

Buy it, enjoy it, absorb it, live it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Things every Christian should think about, January 30, 2000
By

This review is from: Jesus Freaks: Stories of Those Who Stood for Jesus The Ultimate Jesus Freaks (Paperback)
Fewer more compelling books have ever been written. The books tells the stories of believers through the ages and around the world who suffered torture and (usually) death for their faith in Jesus Christ, from Stephen to Columbine. Many of the stories are quite gruesome -- most of us in the Western World can not begin to comprehend death by steamroller, gouging out of eyes and tongue, or flogging and flaying -- but at the same time it was encouraging to hear of the martyr's steadfast faith, and God working in them and through them, so much that they would even love and share with tormentors up until their last breath. Often the persecutors themselves came to faith through the martyrs' testimonies. The book also contains descriptions of what is going on today in the countries where persecution takes place, more so now than ever, and what believers can do. The role that DC Talk actually played in the creation of this book is unclear, but their presence will certainly draw more attention to the book itself, especially that of younger people, which is great as every Christian can use having this information serve as a wake up call.

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspirational, April 24, 2000
By
This review is from: Jesus Freaks: Stories of Those Who Stood for Jesus The Ultimate Jesus Freaks (Paperback)
I found this book quite by accident at a Christian book store I visited during the Easter weekend. The title alone intrigued me, especially since I have been labeled a Jesus freak by co-workers at previous jobs. At my current job I work with a number of individuals that actively ridicule people of faith.

I am from the US and I'm only working in Canada temporarily. I never expected that I would find Canada (British Columbia to be exact) to be so lacking in faith. I have story after story to tell of people speaking against God, religion and faith in general. These people that I'm around don't stop at denying God and Jesus, but oppose anything that even smacks of organized religion. I've heard on the news here that only 33% of Canadians feel that going to Church is worthwhile. Very sad.

The books, "Jesus Freaks," helps me to understand that what I'm going through is very minor compared to what others are enduring. It's helped me put into perspective my problems and has illustrated for me that maybe I could do more.

Mostly I've stayed quiet and let others say their peace. For example, I said nothing when a young woman told a story about how her date over the weekend mentioned God. She told the young Christian that she was a sinner and quite proud of it. She continued for quite some time talking about how stupid this guy was and how dare he talk about God in front of her. This is typical around here. I'm ashamed to say, though, that I didn't say anything. I know now that I should have not remained silent.

Buy this book. Read every account. Put yourself into their shoes. Would you be able to do what these people have done? If not, pray for understanding. Jesus will be their for you, but you need to make yourself available to him. This book will help you to understand what it is we Christians are called to do in the extreme. Even though most of us will never endure death for our beliefs, we all will have to deal with the individuals who don't understand and even oppose our beliefs. Pray for them with kindness and mercy. Love them even though they hate you. That's what our saviour did for us.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book is so awesome!, March 11, 2000
This review is from: Jesus Freaks: Stories of Those Who Stood for Jesus The Ultimate Jesus Freaks (Paperback)
This book is so awesome! It is based on true events. I never knew Christians are still presucuted today, but this book was such an eye-opener. However, some of the storys require a firm stomach. For instance, one Christians got his fingernails ripped out. This book is very interesting and I was challenged in my own walk with Christ. This book made me think would I be willing to die for Christ. I highly recommend this book, because it is so interesting and the book itself looks so cool that if you read it at school or work people will ask you about it. Then you have an oppurtunity to share your faith with them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspirational Book That Grips You Into It., February 21, 2001
By

This review is from: Jesus Freaks: Stories of Those Who Stood for Jesus The Ultimate Jesus Freaks (Paperback)
When I first started reading the book, it was just another thing to do. But after I read the first story I was hooked til the very end. The book consisted of many true-life stories of martyrs who died for their faith in Jesus Christ. I would learn something new everyday and live in awe at how so many people would do those things for the Lord Jesus Christ. This book made my faith in the Lord even stronger than it was before. I have grown more as a Christian and now I am happy to preach the word of God to any one who will listen. Sometimes I cried, sometimes I smiled, sometimes I was proud, sometimes I was in awe, and sometimes I was in guilt while reading this book. It truly was an inspirational book for me. I look up to all those people in that book and every martyr in the world. I couldn't put that book down many times. You would think that this book would be boring because it has a lot of stories of people in other countries. But it was such a good book. I would recommend this to anyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars A true Inspiration, December 5, 1999
By
This review is from: Jesus Freaks: Stories of Those Who Stood for Jesus The Ultimate Jesus Freaks (Paperback)
This book is probably the best book I've read since the Bible. It is a true inspiration to anyone with enough guts to read it. It challenges your faith and your love for Christ. It leaves you asking yourself if your worthy to journey down the narrow road of this Christian walk. I truly enjoyed this book, each individual's story will touch in a unique way. If you have the courage to read it you will never be the same.

5.0 out of 5 stars It took me to my knees., August 6, 2003
By
This review is from: Jesus Freaks: Stories of Those Who Stood for Jesus The Ultimate Jesus Freaks (Paperback)
The stories in this book are compelling on so many levels. The one thing that I can say is that this book took me to my knees. So many times I felt compelled to pray for people in other countries who do suffer because of persecution. This book shows you that even though Christians in America are persecuted it is nothing compared to the people in other countries or in other times. This book showed me what is to come, even in America. If you are a Christian I would recommend this book. If you are not a Christian I would hope that you buy this book to see what people are willing to endure for their beliefs in Christ.
