Review

Jesus Hates Religion focuses on the sole importance of a relationship with Christ—void of legalism, guilt, and feelings of inferiority. The man-made path of religion has no place in the heart of the Christ-follower, and Alex Himaya brings this concept to life.

I wish I could tell you this is a book you can't put down, but it's not. It's a book you may have to put down. In fact, at times you might even want to throw it away or punch it. But let the radical message of Jesus within these pages make its claim, and the death of your religion will blossom into true life in Jesus.

Dr. Jerry Gillis
Lead Pastor at The Chapel at CrossPoint

The single most important decision a person will ever make concerns their relationship with Jesus Christ.  Alex reminds us that it is not about rules or religion, but an intimate relationship.

Dr. Johnny Hunt
Pastor at Frist Baptist Church, Woodstock, Georgia

From the Back Cover

Jesus was not just another great teacher.
He was not just a motivational speaker.
He certainly did not come to start a religion.

Jesus did not come to earth to lead people to create their own paths to finding God.
In fact, He would¹ve hated being given the title "religious leader."
Jesus' purpose was to provide the only path to God.

Pastor and author Alex Himaya retreats with readers back to the Scriptures to see what Jesus thinks about man-made religion. Hepoints readers away from himself, and towardJesus saying, “Don’t trust me. Trust God, and let Him speak for Himself.”

I just want to be told the truth. It seems culture today has so much to say to me; to tell me who I should be, how I should think, and what I should believe in. Culture's message today is measured, strategized, market-tested, and shrewdly packaged to move me in whatever direction the culture deems I should go. And I think a large part of the modern church culture is adopting the same approach.

But, I just want the truth.

'Jesus Hates Religion' is just that. Its a simple truth with profound application to our lives. God made us. God loves us. And God has come to rescue us. That rescue plan was the cross. And by the cross God reconciles us back to Him. All the work required to redeem us was completed on the cross. There is nothing left for us to do but "...Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength." (Mark 12:30)

Yet, we tend to attach things to this message of Grace, this simple truth. We bring to it baggage and guilt. We bring the paradigm of our culture. We impose qualification and requirements that God never intended. We crowd out the simple truth with over complication, confusion, rules, and regulations. And, what we have left is religion.

For those who carry guilt and baggage that has become a barrier between you and Jesus, this book is for you. Reacquaint yourself with Grace. Get back to the simple truth of the Cross.

For those who are committed to the trappings of your religion, this book is for you. The road you're on doesn't go where you think it does. There is another path.

For those who don't know Jesus at all, this book is for you. There is a real, living God who already completed the work required to reconcile with you. Come be introduced to a Savior.

This book is simple truth. And in that truth is hope, and ultimately, life.

Religion is a man made path to God. Read this book to understand that Jesus came to fulfill the law. It's not about you being good enough. It's about God being enough. Period.

This book is a must for anyone who grew up in a formal church institution or has been hurt by a religious group in the past. Alex brings the true Gospel, the message of Grace available to ALL, front and center. In an easy, informal tone, he writes as if he's sitting across the table from you joining in a conversation. Study questions at the end of each chapter make the book more of a journal where we can pause and wrestle with our beliefs before moving on. This book contains sound biblical theology and numerous references to the Bible for validation and continued study. I read through one time very quickly and then re-read it again, much more slowly, as I went back and forth between it and the Bible verses outlined.

This book has truly changed my outlook on my relationship with God. I grew up in a legalistic church where I was taught the dos and don'ts. i really thought i had to check off all of these rules before i could even think about getting intimate with God. Thank you Alex for writing such an incredible that spoke to my heart. This book is a must have!

This book peels back the layers of religion and allows for another answer - relationship.
The whole Bible is about God's desire to reveal himself to humanity, and humanity has reduced it to a list of dos and don'ts (religion). We have spent centuries trying to build pathways to God.

Alex Himaya, in a very readable and authentic way, breaks through to speak to your heart about this topic of relationship over religion. And like one reviewer said, you might want to throw the book down and stomp on it, but trust me - you need to pick it back up and wrestle with it - the battle will be worth it in the end.

"Jesus Hates Religion" is an astoundingly unique work that puts the reader face to face with the hypocrisy of manmade religion. In our works based culture, everything is measured by our accomplishments, but the message of Jesus, like so many other aspects of our humanity, flies in the face of what comes naturally to us. We did not earn salvation, we do not impress God with our works, and we cannot do anything to make Him love us anymore than he already does. It's His Grace, not our efforts, that saves us.

Dr. Himaya tells this story in manner that is easy to understand by both the new believer, and lifelong Christian. He brings the reader to the place of a spiritual reckoning with a belief system that has been part of our DNA since we received our first "atta-boy" as we took our first steps. It's wrong...all of it...flat out wrong, and not found anywhere in the Bible. Dr. Himaya clearly guides the reader to this truth, not through human interpretation, but through the truth of God's word.
I devoured this book in a matter of days (I was fortunate enough to have a couple of long plane rides), and loved every page. Having been raise Catholic, the message of God's grace brought to life in Jesus was a like weight being lifted off my shoulders. I have been a Christian since my early 20s, and now in my early 40s I feel like I finally get it. I am grateful that the Lord used Dr. Himaya to bring clarity to His message that has made my relationship with my Lord and Savior that much better.

This book will shock you. This book will cause you to question your long held beliefs about how God views you. This book will bring you to your knees in gratefulness for what Jesus had done. A must read for the believer at any stage of their journey, as well as any non-believers who have been skeptical of the hypocrisy of manmade religion.
