JL fans will love this,

this is a no-frills multi-camera pro shot show from Boston in 94. Yow is out of control as always. if you've seen the band, this should make you smile from ear to ear. if you haven't, well...its a pretty good document.
the bonus footage lists "Then Comes Dudley" on the menu, but its actually "Mouthbreather." no TCD. the interview after the show is great...simply for the moron interviewing Yow...Yow has a bit of fun with it. entire disc runs about 70 minutes (w/extras)

Finally, "the Jesus Lizard" live!!,

Having seen the Jesus Lizard live several times, I could not wait for a live DVD to be released, and this was no disappointment! The camera work is good and the sound was much better than I had expected. The interview was hysterical, but like someone else said, it should have been in the bonus materials not before the classic "Seasick". I met David Yow at the Rave in Milwaukee, so I will quote him, he said "Barry, (my name is Tim) I hope you will like the live rock and roll show..." I did.

I want more!,
This review is from: The Jesus Lizard Live 1994 (DVD)
Ok, so it is great to finally have some Jesus Lizard live on DVD, and I thoroughly enjoyed this DVD, but... The show from 1994 seems incomplete. There are a few fadeouts during the set, which makes me wonder if some material was left out, or if the order of the concert was rearranged. Second, why not the whole CBGB's show? This DVD does not seem particularly long and they could have fit more material on it. Third, the interview, while entertaining, is embedded in the show, why? It is pretty annoying and probably should have been part of the bonus material. I wouldn't avoid this DVD if you are a Jesus Lizard fan, and the video here is amazing, but a much better job could have been done. In the interview, David Yow mentions that they have hours of live footage, and several music videos, so hopefully more live material will see the light of day soon.

I'm always happy when a tjl show is released, though having over 50+ bootlegged tjl shows on dvd, where are all the crazy antics in this one? Even the bonus material is lacking the wacky fun and danger that their shows are 90% of the time. I hope one day they put out a dvd in the same style of Nirvana's: Tonight Sold Out. Heck, maybe I should put one together for tjl fans?

Best band of the 90's, period!,

The Jesus Lizard did something that very few bands these days have the ability to do...remain fresh, consistent and inventive, surpassing all stereotypes, and maintaining my attention for years on end! They are simply my favorite band of the 90's, hands down. This noise rock band infused low-end groove with jazz-influenced tones pulled off with a progressive post-punk edge. Who would have ever thought that the mad ravings of a singing lunatic accompanied by the tightest rhythmic beast of a band would sound this good...but I get chills every time I turn the volume up on any particular number of Jesus Lizard tunes. But enough about the band...if you bought this DVD, then you already know all you need to about the band. This DVD brings to life the raw stripped down experience of attending a Jesus Lizard show. There's no flashy light show, no dramatic stage decor...if that's what you're into, then you probably won't appreciate this. But if you're into the guys pounding out classic after classic with McNeilly and Sims' driving rhythm section and Denison's brilliant guitar wizardry over Yow's maniacal stage antics, then this is truly the DVD for you. The video and audio quality are about what you'd expect...not high fidelity, but not piss poor either. My expectations are satisfied. Get it, enjoy it, LOVE it! The Jesus Lizard FOREVER...

A terrific DVD when The Jesus Lizard were at their peak. It's filmed in 1994 and means that you get many tracks from 'Liar' and 'Down'. Yow literally launches himself at the audience from the word go. Dennison shreds it up, Sims lunges on the bass, but it's Mac's phenomenal drumming that is the stand-out. The version of 'Boilermaker' is something else and even an early version of 'Mailman' is included which Yow refers to as a "cover of new Soundgarden song". The setting is intimate and the audio quality surprisingly good. A good interview with David Yow is included at the end of the feature and you get 5 live tracks from a 1992 show which has a good version of "Monkey Trick". If you're a J.L fan you won't bother reading a review you'll just buy it!

Not bad, except for...,

...the confusion and exclusion of "Then Comes Dudley." I had really hoped to be able to geek out to its acrobatic guitar lines on video. "Mouthbreather" appears in its stead. Nevertheless, it's an entertainingly characteristic JL show -- the band deftly pounds away in its usual relentless, machinistic manner while David Yow screams, spits, and jumps into the audience. The sound quality suffices and the cameras capture the band members pretty well. Of course, nothing compares to being there...

I saw the Jesus Lizard several times and this DVD pretty much captures the experience. Not "super" high quality but it features multi camera shots and good (surround) sound. The bonus footage from CBGB's is bootleg but still worth a look. Overall a fun DVD from a great live band. Highly recommended for anyone who enjoyed JL live or those that missed out and want to see what they were like. David Yow was freaking crazy....and obviously not a germaphobe ;)
