5.0 out of 5 stars A literary treasure chest.
This is a "sign post" book that forces you stop and evaluate your perspective of Jesus, His life and teaching. Yancey is a wordsmith with a style that is both honest, probative, and enlightening. 2.0 out of 5 stars Didn't work for me.
To start I am using the study guide on my own, not in a group setting. I LOVE the book, "The Jesus I Never Knew" but I found the study guide boring. The book is very deep and thought provoking... sometimes i would stop mid chapter just to sit with something I had read so I could take it in... wanting to be sure that I would not forget it. 5.0 out of 5 stars A literary treasure chest., April 20, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The Jesus I Never Knew Study Guide (Paperback)
This is a "sign post" book that forces you stop and evaluate your perspective of Jesus, His life and teaching. Yancey is a wordsmith with a style that is both honest, probative, and enlightening. This is a revitalizing must-read for Christians, especially those wishing to enhance their accompanying biblical examination, but meaningful for non-believers as well. Like all books of this genre, its pages should be evaluated through the framework of scripture, but I see no conflict here. What I find is a refreshing examination of Christ which broadens rather that disorients one's understanding and relationship with Him. One thing is for certain: you'll get your money's worth from this literary treasure chest as it merits reading, rereading, underscoring, and lending out - just make sure that your friends return it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Study Guide, June 20, 2002
This review is from: The Jesus I Never Knew Study Guide (Paperback)
While I was in Seminary school, the book was used for a class about Jesus and who He really is. This guide helped me tremendously. In the future, I plan to get the entire teaching package, including the videos.

5.0 out of 5 stars Jesus I Never Knew Study Guide, August 2, 2005
This review is from: The Jesus I Never Knew Study Guide (Paperback)
The study guide is an excellent resource for anyone facilitating small group discussion on Yancey's book. The suggestions for how to enhance the discussion are doable, and a variety of options are presented. The study guide is well worth the price.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must read for all, June 25, 2001

A great book to cut through all the ideas of one group or church. It is above all the preconceptions of Jesus, and presents a person that is very mesterious and difficult to pigeon hole. A great book for anyone upset with the state of the christian church or christianity as a whole. It ponders questions like why christians are so condesending of those who are in most need of help. Again, a must read for all.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Incredible Thought Provoker, January 3, 2007
This review is from: The Jesus I Never Knew Study Guide (Paperback)
I have spent a fairly large part of a long life in Sunday School,
church,Bible Classes, college courses, and daily reading of the Bible and myriad magazine, tracts etc. But never have I experienced a deeper mind shaking treatise on faith and understanding of what Jesus was doing and intended while he taught his disciples and listeners/observers during his time on earth as described in the 4 gospels. My understanding of passages I never could comprehend before is wonderfully satisfying and truly exhilerating. I haven't stopped thinking about it, and doubt I ever will.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Study Guide!, April 10, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Jesus I Never Knew Study Guide (Paperback)
This small study guide provided great discussion questions as well as chapter summaries. it also included recommended uses for the movies that Yancey used in his original study of Jesus, as well as, the time cues so you don't have to spend hours scanning the movies for the necessary clip. If you are teaching through this book and want to integrate the video clips and group discussion, then I'd strongly recommend getting this study guide.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for small group or sunday shcool, April 22, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Jesus I Never Knew Study Guide (Paperback)
This book is great for small groups or Sunday school, or even personal study. (I recommend getting the study helps for group use.)
We have so many misconceptions about who Jesus really was, so Philip Yancy uses a different perspective to help us see the real Jesus. He looks at Jesus' teachings, his life, his death and resurrection from His historical and "Jewish" perspective, reminding us that Jesus was not the image we see in most Hollywood movies. It will stimulate discussion and invites you to really meet "The Jesus you never knew."

2.0 out of 5 stars Didn't work for me., January 19, 2012

This review is from: The Jesus I Never Knew Study Guide (Paperback)
To start I am using the study guide on my own, not in a group setting. I LOVE the book, "The Jesus I Never Knew" but I found the study guide boring. The book is very deep and thought provoking... sometimes i would stop mid chapter just to sit with something I had read so I could take it in... wanting to be sure that I would not forget it. Our God is taking me to a deeper level with Him by learning more about Him through His son Jesus and He brought me to the book. Thinking the study guide would guide me deeper into each chapter I bought it as well. But instead I found the study guide surface deep. It seemed to me that its to help facilitate a group setting to open up with each other. The video suggestions are a wonderful addition and I think a fantastic idea for a group or individual but I don't have the time nor the resources to use them. I guess this book does help people open up so for that I cant discourage but for an individual it did not work for me. I gave it two stars because contrary to the beauty and depth of the book I found the study guide to be quite the opposite.
