This review is from: Me And Jesus The Pimp In A '79 Granada Last Night (MP3 Download)
Boots Riley has crafted an exquisite story along the lines of "he who lives by the sword, dies by it." The narrator in the hip hop song is none other than Jesus the pimp's son, who visits upon his father that sin which he inflicted upon his mother. How this is told -- through flashbacks interspersed with present-day action -- demonstrates what truly great songs can do: establish a narrative, project a message, and evoke sentiment from its listeners.
