But all I can say to begin with is WOW. I don't think I have ever underlined almost an entire book before. Granted it is a very short book with about 70 pages but there are no words wasted and no fluff. There is a fair amount of good repetition because, well honestly the concepts are so foreign to our religious traditions that we need it. (They are foreign to our mind yet are familiar to our soul). He writes in such a beautiful and even poetic way that reflects a solid and vibrant faith in the Triune God that all I could keep thinking was, 'where has this guy been hiding?'
I would say that Mr. Kruger has provided and distilled for us a beautiful picture of the Christus Victor model of the atonement from Scripture (he also cites Athanasius and others). This is an aspect of the cross the Church has forgotten and abandoned even though it had been the prominent view in the early Church and beyond while our legal view of Penal Substitutionary Atonement was formed at the Reformation. I believe Kruger would say the CV is the ONLY view to be taken (?) as far as what was occurring at the cross. I do not yet know what to conclude about that. I am currently studying the spectrum of models of the atonement.Read more ›
Kruger manages to unwrap the mystery of Jesus as the second Adam found in Paul's short statements in Romans and serve it up to us in a form that is not only understandable, but rings true with the whole of the Scriptures.
Finally, what made this little book even more enjoyable was the clear, yet passionate way it was written. I have tried to tackle both T.F. Torrence and Athanasius to no avail. Baxter speaks clearly and resoundingly of the love of God in a way the Western church is absolutely desperate for! I pray more folks find this little gem.
There is SO MUCH more to the cross than Jesus dying for my sins. To leave it at just that is far less than He intends. Kruger takes you to places in His heart that you long to go.
Excellent book. Not a slow read, nor will you just read it once.

I read this book quickly, but it really should be read slowly. It is Athanasius' "On The Incarnation" for the modern reader. Read morePublished 11 months ago by Jordan T. Martin
