These days, clean air is a must for any shop. JET's three-speed air filtration system is a great buy for a midsize shop, cycling all the air in a 40-by-40-by-10-foot room up to 14 times in one hour. Unlike many of the competing products, JET's air cleaner comes with a remote control, allowing you to turn it on and off, or switch from low to medium to high, from anywhere in your shop. (This is especially handy if you mount your system to an out-of-the-way section of ceiling, where it might not be so easy to reach.) JET's air cleaner also has a built-in timer with settings of two, four, and eight hours. You can leave the system on and go to bed and it will turn itself off while you sleep. You'll also be pleased with how quiet this system is. Even when set on high, the noise is comparable to that of a standard floor fan blowing through a living room. It's really just background white noise, and isn't a distraction at all. The system's three filters--an electrostatic filter, the eight-bag inner filter, and the diffuser filter--combine to remove 99 percent of all particles 5 microns in size and 85 percent of particles 1 micron in size. The end result is a shop that's a lot healthier to breathe in, which lets you worry about more important things, such as the woodworking project at hand. --Jon Groebner

We purchased two of these for our shop after initially purchasing a JDS unit (which we still have) It is very well constructed and quiet even at the highest setting. The noise level on high is not high frequency so it sounds more like white noise in the shop. The JDS unit put out a more irritating whining sound. The unit takes standard size 20 x 24 x 2 inch filters. It also has the option to add an internal 20 x 24 x 2 charcoal filter. The bag filter inside is washable. I can't see any down side except for the fact I wish you could turn off the remote feature and just turn it on with an ac switch. Its not cheap but is constructed so well that it really is a great buy.

This filter works very well I'm pleased with its performance.

Replacement filters are not a standard size and thus difficult to find.

And it would be nice if it could be converted to run on 230 volts.

I purchased one of these right after after Jet started selling them. I have it hanging from the ceiling in my shop, from heavy screw eyes driven into the ceiling joists, which has a 12' overhead. I also have a Jet dust collection system and between the two units my shop stays very clean, all things being considered. I do work in my shop full time so I make a LOT of dust. To date I have never had to replace any of the filter elements. I simply blow them out and put them back in. Most of the time I run on the low speed which cleans the air very well, I do want to be able to hear my sound system!!!! My only complaint would be that the remote only works from the side which has the indicator panel on it. Not a major problem as long as you plan for that issue. I have never tried to wash the inner filter as the manual does not indicate that it is washable.
