3.0 out of 5 stars The Wolf Rocks!
NOw this is pretty intense stuff. While I agree they are extremey derivative from the Ramones mainly they manage to be less well produced than their heroes who in comparison sound like they were quite polished. Still quite fun to listen to their japanese brand of garage punk.

Hey, somebody slipped a copy of Lilith Fair's Greatest Hits Vol. 11 in my Guitar Wolf CD case! This thing roars! The production on the first four songs sound as if they were recorded underwater and run through a toaster oven, which actually doesn't detract all that much. And then Teenage UFO explodes in relative clarity, and it's just stunning. These guys have got the dynamics of true gut-clenching rock and roll DOWN, and you are suddenly pinned to the wall! If you're desperate for the sheer rush that comes from defiant, no holds barred monster rock and roll, Guitar Wolf would like a minute of your time. Put this in your player and watch the "alternative" weenies flee in horror. I urge you to write your congressman and insist that the National Council for the Arts fund Guitar Wolf. As an added benefit, my health has also greatly improved since I got this CD, since I no longer have to get drunk and spin around the room to get the effect I crave- Guitar Wolf perfectly replicates the experience! What a band. What a record. Be cleansed by Guitar Wolf.

4.0 out of 5 stars Like an atomic bomb in your stereo!!!, December 31, 2002

This is one of the most overlooked punk albums of the 90's, from one of punks most overlooked bands. The CDs warning sticker lays claim that This is the loudest album ever recorded and I believe it (unless there are experimental artists out there that have tried to record frequencies that destroy your stereo). Filled with loud, distorted, feedback, Ramones-esq power stomps like Jet Generation, Teenage U.F.O and Cosmic Space Girl. Its a manic blend of surf guitar, rockabilly and garage punk which is as extreme as their native lands game shows.

First of all, in my opinion, this is Guitar Wolf's best album. If you like them, like the Ramones, 77 style punk, or just plain love rock n roll - BUY THIS. right away.

If you dont get it like certain "music fans", then dont bring down the overall rating of this album by complaining about the feedback, the noise, the sheer volume, the vocals - ANY PART OF THIS ALBUM. you just dont get it. Tune in to some easy listening station and proceed to tune out the violent beauty of some of the best rock n roll ever made - in Japan or anywhere else.

Say what you will of the production values, this stuff is raw, fun, powerful and LOUD. If you want glossy pruduction values go listen to mainstream rap or a boy band. Guitar Wolf will offer none of that type of plastic comfort. This is true rock n roll.

5.0 out of 5 stars this album never ceases to amaze me..., June 10, 2000

Wow...

How to describe the musical experience known as Guitar Wolf? Well, I have a show on a small college radio station, and the DJ who had the DISTINCT pleasure to review this work of genius, described it as such:

"Guitar Wolf is loud, angry, screeching, distorted, Japanese garage punk at ITS VERY BEST! This f***king ROCKS!

Oh, how true.

Every time I play this CD, I'm just blown away by its raw potential...as is my unfortunate audience, I'm sure. I keep looking for something that will make this disk better. So far I haven't found it...hmmm, it must just be that good...

Or something.

So, if you're looking for some LOUD, ANGRY, SCREECHING, DISTORTED, JAPANESE GARAGE PUNK AT IT'S VERY BEST, then this CD might just be for you.

Incidently, as I was wandering through a local music shop, my eye caught a stunning Guitar Wolf poster proudly displayed on the back wall. I asked the shop owner if he had any extras. No. I offered to BUY it. Nope. He simply couldn't bear to part with such a treasure.

Sigh. Such is the raw power of Guitar Wolf.... What a freakin band. Prepare yourselves, hold on tight, and may God have mercy on us all...

remain calm: your speakers are not blown; it's g-wolf's new album! and it rocks! g-wolf are back again with more creative chaos to scare your girlfriends away. if i find a girl who digs 'em, i'll marry her. brilliant organized noise that's louder than a harley without headers. seiji's distorted but catchy japenglish vocals will get you singin along even when you can't understand a word. my fav's: 'roaring blood', 'gakulan rider', 'can-nana fever', 'refrigerater zero' and, well, all of 'em. cochran's summertime blues was very fun with some new lyrics goin' on. the only thing wrong with this album is that it ends.

5.0 out of 5 stars Roars to life with unprecedented force., August 20, 2006

Exploding out of the gate with the most reckless sonic assault imaginable, Guitar Wolf destroys everything in its path. This album is the epitome of that destruction.

If you have 'Golden Black' you will recognize seven fantastic songs on here, but that in no way should stop you from picking this record up. As a whole it is very cohesive; showing Guitar Wolf at its most confident, most focused, and most LOUD... or loudest, whatever.

Aside from the 'greatest hits' songs 'Jet Generation' features the groovy 'Cosmic Space Girl', and wildly noisy 'Cyborg Kids'. The hidden gem of this album, however, is the ferociously addictive bulldozer that is 'KUNG FU RAMONE' <--- typed in all caps because it is awesomely loud as hell. It features Seiji's most vile scream, a thunderous bassline, shattering symbals, and a simple but killer lyric. I was amazed the first time I heard it. It could possibly be compared to the first time I ever listened to Guitar Wolf.

The hit songs are still as good as ever, especially the incoherent cover of Eddie Cochran's 'Summertime Blues', the deadly 'Jet Generation', and a super suave dirtier version of 'Kaminari One'.

Prepare to get your butt kicked and your speakers replaced with 'Jet Generation'.

4.0 out of 5 stars LOUD, July 13, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Jet Generation (Audio CD)
This album is so LOUD that its LOUDness can only be accurately expressed by spelling LOUD entirely in capital letters. It is also incomprehensible, ear-splitting, misanthropic, headache-inducing, and frequently flirts dangerously with the ridiculous; ie, its great rock n roll (or as the Wolf might put it, its kick-a## motorcyle teenage leather-boy atomic rock). Buy it, crank it up and do permanent damage to your stereo AND your central nervous system - allright!!

5.0 out of 5 stars ONE, TWO, SREE, FOUR!!!!, September 6, 2007
This review is from: Jet Generation (Audio CD)
Legend has it that this is the loudest CD ever recorded.

Its not true (Iggys remix of the Stooges "Raw Power" is at least a little louder, to my ears anyway), but becuase of the production, it does SOUND really loud.

Guitar Wolf are a totally awesome punk/rockabilly/garage band that go for an all out attack on every album. Its a pure rock 'n' roll experience like no other.

The music is SO loud and SO distorted and SO in the red it can be hard to listen to for those who only listen to more radio oriented fare. (just listen to the samples, and you'll know what I mean), but there's so much POWER in what they do, the first time you hear it its just incredible.

The bass and drums are just a-chuggin' along like a freight train on Red Bull, the guitar is loud and crazy and all the solos sound like Seiji's getting electrocuted everytime he touches the guitar strings. Also, the vocals, which are sometimes Japanese, sometimes English, sometimes both and almost always virtually unintelligible are screamed with the passion of a man having his soul ripped from his body.

Its not all just over the top noise, though, the songs do have some solid hooks under all the chaos, so even if the amps was turned down and sound was cleaned up, you'd still be getting some great music. "Ca-Na-Na Fever," "Gakulan Rider," "Shimane Slim," and the title track will have you singing along even if you don't know any Japanese.

In short, I've often heard that the greatness of rock 'n' roll is the danger and fire of the performance. If thats the standard, Guitar Wolf is perhaps the greatest rock 'n' roll band of all time.

One of the most F'ed up sounding albums you'll ever hear-and that's a GOOD thing. WAY distorted, freaky, amped-up J. D. R-N-R tunes. Every facet is turned up to "11". Saw them live, opening for the CRAMPS some years ago, and they were incredible.
