An incredible resource for parents traveling with kids.,

This review is from: Jet with Kids: Taking the Fear Out of Flying... with Your Kids! (Paperback)
This is a great book for any parent traveling with small children or thinking they can't travel because they have small children. Not only does it have great advice about inflight activities to keep kids entertained, etc, it has recommendations for great travel products that make traveling with my little ones a breeze. Most importantly, the author alerts you to the hazards of the "lap child" policy on most airlines. I highly recommend this book to any frequent traveler thinking of having children or already in the thick of parenthood.

This review is from: Jet with Kids: Taking the Fear Out of Flying... with Your Kids! (Paperback)
The Really Good: Ms. Clowers (the author) is clearly passionate about children, parents, and their combined safety and comfort when traveling. This book captures some key points she has gathered through her extensive experience traveling with a child along with information gathered through interviews with experts with over 450 years of experience including gate agents, flight attendants, and pilots. The result is a handful of points where any one of them, if you had not figured it out for yourself, could be worth many times the cost of this book. (I found the packing tips and suggestions for seat selection particularly useful.)The Somewhat Annoying: There is a lot of self-promotion. The author's web site hundreds of times in this 150 page book. On several occasions it appears five times on a single page. The book could have been made a lot shorter by using a different layout, moving the links to a page on the author's site, and then referencing that site far fewer times. Perhaps as a result the book could have been made available for a bit less. The Bottom Line: I gave this book a good rating because it provides useful information that will contribute the safety and comfort of my wife and daughter. If it were about anything else the rating would have been considerably worse.

I wish this book would have been available when I started flying with our daughter. I had so many questions and concerns, and I had to learn it the hard way. Now you can prepare yourself with "Jet with Kids." I agree with most of the information, but I have some doubts about "flying with an infant on your lap." The author discourages it. If you have family living overseas, and you regular want to visit them, then it ends up being rather expensive, that is having to buy an extra seat each time. I always flew with my baby/toddler on my lap until she was 23 months old. I did, however, use the BabyBair (a kind of life jacket attached to your seatbelt).http://www.trialsofpenelope.com
