The greatest Puffy album and perhaps J-pop of all time!,
By consumer123 "dnaeye" (Los Angeles, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Jet (Audio CD)
Although some might say the more recent "Fever Fever" is their greatest album, I think "Jet" is just incredible. I had been an off-and-on J-pop fan for a while before this album came out, but one listen to this, and I knew I was in J-pop heaven. Every subsequent release including "Fever Fever" (good, but spotty) and "Spike" (hmmm...) seemed to be either trying to recapture the magic of "Jet" or diverge on some new styles that didn't quite work for me. If you're at all interested or like Puffy, this is THE album to get no matter how expensive. I easily listened to this at least 23 times...a week back in COLLEGE.

JET CD - Puffy's Greatest Hits,
By Posniak (Tokyo, Japan) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Jet (Audio CD)
If you look at JET CD as a greatest hits album of sorts (5 hit singles, all of them excellent), then it is a great album. However, the whole thing doesn't fit together so well as a standalone album. It is worth every penny though, just for those 5 singles alone. Very diverse sounds: from disco to the Beatles to the 50's. JPOP at its finest. Here's the track listing: 1. JETTO keisatsu 2. kore ga watashi no ikiru michi 3. CAKE IS LOVE 4. ai no shirushi 5. haru no asa 6. REMON KIDDO 7. kobijin 8. NEHORIINA HAHORIINA 9. tetsugaku 10. DE RIO 11. SAAKITTO no musume 12. nagisa ni matsuwaru EKUSETORA 13. MOTHER

This album is tops!,
This review is from: Jet (Audio CD)
Ami and Yumi surf all the styles of the American rock & roll! Some songs sound like the Beatles, some sound like the Who, one even sounds like Black Sabbath, but Ozzy, Roger Daltry or John Lennon weren't nearly as cute and happy as Ami and Yumi! Top notch production and songwriting by Tamio Okuda, a Japanese star in his own right! Also, Puffy has worked with Andy Sturmer of the San Francisco band Jellyfish! If you don't like this album, chances are you're a really mean and disagreeable person! And in that case, who cares about what you think?!

cho kawaii!,

Puffy "Jet CD" was given to me as a gift by a friend who was in Japan. At first, the appeal was strictly due to the novelty. However, after subsequent listens I realized how strong the song writing and production really is........and they're very cute. The producer, Okuda Tamio has really outdone himself on this one. And the people he recruited to write are great J-Pop tunesmiths. There seem to be influences from everywhere....not the least the Beatles (believe it or not). Buy it and love it.

Very Beatlesque. I just love these two lovely girls singing songs which sound very friendly. Familiar, yet different & unique. Track #1 & #2 - must listen!

Tremendous jpop for a new age,

Puffy is quite simply the best thing since sliced bread. Their songs vary greatly in style and nuance, without losing a drop of cuteness. The only problem with puffy is that when searching for pages on them search engines return info on that weasel Puff daddy.

Purrfect J-Pop for all the kiddies!,

Nothing compares to the kid-oriented candy pop of Puffy. NO, they are not related in any way to the Sean "Puff Daddy" Combs. They are two of the cutest girls in the world, Ami Onuki and Yumi Yoshimura. Backed by the talented songwriting of Tamio Okuda and Rodney Greenfield's artistic merchandising (of Parappa the Rapper fame), Puffy is Sony/Epic's second biggest pop icon next to their legendary Sony Playstation. And yes, the music is just as infectious and delicious as their sweet image! Yah-ta!

I have yet to find one Puffy cd that I do not like. With every Puffy purchase I am constantly blown away by the infectious melodies that this duo churns out. There really isn't any other pop act anywhere on this planet like Puffy who can meld various genres of music successfully and make it sound so refreshing in this day and age of disposable music. Although I have heard most of the songs on this cd from their best of compilation, there were a few songs I haven't heard before which makes it worth the price I paid for this cd.

I was living in Japan when Puffy came out with this album and there was no avoiding these songs. Seriously, they were everywhere: convenience stores; department stores; grocery stores; pubs; and izakayas. Just about any place you had to wait in line, there you heard the sounds of Ami and Yumi dancing around in your head like some sort of intrusive unicorns.
And the sounds were infectious. To say they were huge might be an understatement, but it's important to note that their success wasn't just some kawaii marketing strategy cooked up by Sony media. Ami and Yumi owe everything to the song-writing talents of Okuda Tamio, one of Japan's most prolific and enduring musicians who crafted their sound as lovingly as any songwriter could hope to do. Okuda Tamio knows pop music better than a kid knows comic books, and I can't overstate his pop sensibilities enough. Every hook, every bridge, every chorus on this album is brilliantly conceived and tailored to the unique singing abilities of Ami and Yumi. It is as foot-tapping, as cute, and as charming as it gets. Okuda's self-titled recordings are also worth your time and attention. Check out his catalog from the late nineties as a starting place. The sixties seem to permeate almost everything the man has written and recorded.
