3.0 out of 5 stars Stylish as ever, but the gameplay hasn't aged well November 22, 2012
Verified Purchase
I really enjoyed Jet Grind Radio on the Dreamcast more than ten years ago, so when I heard that they were releasing it again as a HD versión I got really excited. The port is very nicely done, with improved menus and extras (such as making of videos and achievements). The graphics, although dated technically, still are attractive (running with a capped 30 FPS), and the music (with only two tracks missing of the original) is timeless and catchy. The game is set in a funky-fictional city ("Tokyo-to"), where roller blade gangs fight for territory (by tagging grafitti on the walls), while a private security force tries to stop them. Like in Tony Hawk games, you can grind and make tricks in virtually any surface in the city. Each mission consist on painting a set number of grafitti in an area while evading the security forces. Also, other skaters challenge you to a series of tricks, joining your gang if you complete them.

The game is just as I remembered from those Dreamcast days. Unfortunately, that includes the stiff controls and the lousy camera. More often than not I failed a jump because of them. Also, the included game map it's useless, making it very easy to get lost or to miss a wall that needs to be tagged. And when you fail a mission (did I mention there is a time limit to complete a mission?), you restart from the begining.

All of this makes it difficult to recommend to someone who hasn't played it before. But for all of us who were part of the Dreamcast generation (or if you can get it at a discount) and are willing to forgive the gameplay hindrances, Jet Set Radio is still one of the most memorable and stylish games of the Dreamcast.

My system:
CPU: AMD Phenom II x4 955
Graphics: AMD Radeon HD 6850
Memory: 4 GB RAM
O.S.: Windows 8 Pro 64 bit

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the Best Games Ever Made November 23, 2012
As someone who has never owned a SEGA Dreamcast I've always wanted to play Jet Set Radio. When the game was announced for PC I was ecstatic. Now that I have poured in enough hours into the game to beat it I can state that the game has aged like wine. The visuals are gorgeous, the gameplay is fun and addicting. Highly recommend to anybody who wants to give this a shot.

1.0 out of 5 stars Cannot save the game November 29, 2014
By Cordial
This is a great game and was fun on the SEGA, but on Steam it is bad. I just bought this on Steam, and after playing it I found that the 'save game' option is unavailable. YOU CANNOT SAVE YOUR GAME WITH THIS VERSION! Since this is sold as a code for Steam I felt putting a warning on here was a good idea. After reading some more reviews it seems it is a glitch that was never addressed. If not being able to save does not bother you then go ahead and get it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Amazing game! March 3, 2013

I've always been a big fan of Jet Set Radio. Loved it on Dreamcast and still love it on steam. Controls are updated a bit with the camera being controlled by the 2nd analog stick. That was nice to see. Graphics are updated and look great. I did have some issues getting the game to run at full speed for some reason. I have a Quad core and it lagged really bad, I disabled 2 cores, rebooted it played at full speed. Then I re-enabled all 4 cores and rebooted and it still played at full speed. Weird?? But it works, Yay!

Pros: Great game
Looks great
Controls are better on the 360 controller than on Dreamcast

Cons: Seems to have issues with high end PC's

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome April 21, 2013

It's Jet Set Radio. I really don't need to say much more. If you liked it before, you'll like it now. Wish they had done a little work to update the controls and camera but can't complain.
