5.0 out of 5 stars With style, March 19, 2004
By
This review is from: Jet Set Radio (Audio CD)
This album is Jazzy-Funky-Dance-Electro-Ambient-Trip Hop-Rock and they can mix all these in one song. The end result: very joyful songs.

Track
1) This is where it all began
Nice jazzy song with awsome contrabass, drum, piano and proccessed vocals

2)It didn't used to be this way
More guitar and synth oriented song in style of Porcupine Tree. A good song.

3)Powder, groom, hardpack
Drum, contrabass and delay effects. Very cute song.

4)I saw the messenger of the new god there
A dance song wich becomes something else. An average song.

5)Secret spot
Wow. Drum, contabass and full syth effects in a Chemical brothers's way mixed with Porcupine Tree. Excellent song, my second favorite.

6)I'm beginning to think I can cure a rainy day
The most eclectic song of the album. Starts trance, then a nice drum beat comes in, followed by Pocrupine Tree guitar like, shift to jazzy piano mood, then sounds like Joe Satrini (Belly dancer style song). Excellent song.

7)Diabolical Scheme
Wow. The opening of this song is quite something. You have to hear the guitar, pretty unusual. Enhance with really nice rock vocal passages but they could not resist to change the mood to trip hop style. And they go again and again. It's my favorite song.

8)More Money than I know what to do with
Love it. Repetitive song.

9)Tierce de Picardie
More rock mixed with strange sounds. Love it

10)Scherzo in C minor
Stange song. A kind of classic performed by a gipsy. It must be the violin.

Love this album

5.0 out of 5 stars An Excellent CD, from a little Known band, July 19, 2003
This review is from: Jet Set Radio (Audio CD)
I don't care what the reviewer before me said. If he did any kind of research, he would have realized that "Vulgar Unicorn" is a great rock band, who could knock the socks off any "Progressive Rock" fan.

He claims they're just "Some Rock Band". Get a life!
I knew that "Vulgar Unicorn" was a rock band before anyone else.
These guys are so good, that they make Green Day sound like "New Kids on the Block".

I absolutely love track #1 "This is where it all began". This track is amazing, and with the double bass, it totally blew me away the first time I heard it. As an entire package, "Jet set radio" is nothing like I imagined it would be at all. It's 100% better than I expected. And, it's the first CD I bought, of this kind of music.

The music is out of this world, and is really eclectic. There are no 2 songs alike on it. My favorite song has to be "It didn't used to be this way". God, it's so good. The music alone is incredible.
Why I say that "Jet set radio" is eclectic, is because of track #10. It's called "Scherzo in C Minor". It's a strings arrangement, instrumental piece, which totally blows away the "grunge/progressive rock/alternative taste. It's a real soft, cool ending for an ultra long CD such as this.

The main band members are:

Drums: Bruce Campbell
Synth & Sequencer Programming: Chuck Babbage
Double Bass: Doug Liman
Piano: Archer Maclean

There are many who worked really hard on this CD as well!

I have written to Bruce Campbell, and have been sent some stuff, personalized by him. He wrote me in an email, so I think it's really cool to have their music!

I won't say much more than "go and buy this CD".

Also, if you want to hear some good stuff, go and buy "Pineapple Thief". Bruce Cambell also plays on their CDs.
I have 3 of Pineapple Theif's CDs. They are titled:

Variations on a dream (2 CD set)
Abducting the Unicorn
137

Good, good music. You have to buy all these titles, if you like Progressive Rock. You won't be sorry.

Here's The Tracklist For Vulgar Unicorn "Jet Set Radio":
This Is Where It All Began
It didn't used to be this way
Powder, Groom, Hardpack
I Saw The Messenger Of The New God There
I'm Beginning To Think I Can Cure A Rainy Day
Diabolical Scheme
More Money Than I Know What To Do With
Tierce De Picardie
Scherzo in C Minor

These guys are musical Genius. I really hope they continue their career. This music is like nothing else I have in my CD collection. Go and buy it!!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Not what you think., January 12, 2003
This review is from: Jet Set Radio (Audio CD)
This is not Japanese music. This is not a soundtrack to the game. This is just some rock band.
