About the Author

Europe, South America, North America and Asia - this is where I travel mostly, and do so often since I am an international flight attendant for a commercial airline, and married to a man who is European. Since it is what I do, it’s what I write about, noting along the way new discoveries of food, drinks, shopping, places to see, cool things to do. Love seeing the world, and seeing what’s out there new to discover. And I love to photograph it all too.

Jet Vignettes is a quick easy read. Seeing life from the perspective of a stewardess is humorous at times. The author keeps you reading as you experience favorite restaurants, places and sites that she experiences in her profession. She mixes romance, grief and humor as the pages unfold. Loved her descriptions of demanding passengers and made one see things from the stewardess vantage point . They are the hostess with the mostest in the SKIES and so much is expected of them. Purchased my first kindle so I could read this book. So glad I did.. I enjoyed every single chapter and read it in one sitting.

The sixties produced "Coffee, Tea or Me " and now in this millenium we have the wonderfully written "Jet Vignettes." Catherine Caldwell is a talented writer and has a real gift in her vivid and colorful descriptions of her life as an international flight attendant. Her style of writing is engaging. Humorous and captivating. It is as if she is taking you along on with her routine flights to far-off destinations around the world. Five days in Santorini with sunsets in Oia or thirtysix hours in Paris Eiffel Tower and eating croque-monsieurs and drinking French wine. Imagine having a career where the world is your oyster. While this book is much like a travel guide , the author is quick to point out the real role of today's flight attendant: a first responder. Flight attendants are on a plane strictly for the passengers'safety. They put their lives on the line every day.She is quick to point out how important it is a sense of humour is. "Laughter is the elixir of life." She also underscores that flight attendants are the most creative thinkers. What do you do when catering is twenty meals short? There is always a creative solution. While her stories on and off the plane hold your attention, it should be noted that Miss Caldwell has excellent command of the English language with wonderful descriptions. She describes the flight into the airport in Ecuador as"a challenge each and every time. The pilots have to thread the plane through mountains, down through a valley, down onto the runway." Miss Caldwell really earns her wings with "Jet Vignettes." Luckily, this is volume one and hopefully we can expect more high adventures and exciting stories.

I didn't really think this book added any surprises or interesting new information on life aboard airplanes. Air crews work hard for a living, and I admire someone sharing their story, but it was not particularly a fun read, and I abandoned it half way through.
