Add a little extra fun to your outdoor cooking adventures with the Jetboil Flash personal cooking system. The all-in-one Flash combines an adjustable stainless-steel burner and a 1-liter FluxRing cooking vessel in a single compact unit.

The all-in-one Flash cooking system boils 2 cups of water for cocoa, coffee, instant soup, or other meals.
To use, simply add water or liquid to the 1-liter cooking cup and fix it to the burner. Within two minutes, the Flash will provide two cups of boiling water for cocoa, coffee, instant soup, or a gourmet freeze-dried meal. It's easy, convenient, and fun. Plus, everything you need stacks and stores inside the FluxRing cooking cup, including the burner and fuel canister.

The Flash is one of the safest outdoor cooking solutions on the market. The cooking cup clips onto the burner, preventing accidental spills, while the fuel canister tripod keeps the entire unit stable while you cook. And you'll know when your liquid is hot thanks to the color-changing heat indicator within the insulating cozy. Other features include a pushbutton "through-cup" igniter, a drink-through lid, an insulating bottom cover/measuring cup, a built-in windscreen that protects the flame during inclement weather, and a neoprene lining within the cup that keeps food and beverages warm.

The Flash runs on 100-gram Jetpower fuel canisters, which provide enough energy to boil 12 liters or 100 cups of water each. The Flash is available in blue, carbon, green, gold, violet, and sapphire.

Product Description

The Jetboil Flash cooking system utilizes the same efficient design as the now classic Personal Cooking System (PCS) but adds the additional convenience feature of an external temperature indicator. Designed to capture and focus heat more efficiently than traditional cooking systems, the Flash brings two cups of water to a boil in only two minutes. The Flash's 1-liter insulated and hand-anodized aluminum Jetboil cooking cup connects directly to the high performance burner through the use of Jetboil FluxRing technology, ensuring that less heat is lost during the cooking process. A built-in windscreen allows the Flash to function effectively even under less than optimal conditions. A simple-to-use electric igniter makes lighting the burner and operating the Flash quick and easy. A neoprene lining encases the FluxRing cooking cup, keeping food and beverages warm long after heating. The lining also houses a color change window that alerts you to when the contents are hot. A sip-through lid further helps insulate the contents of the cooking cup and prohibits spills. The protective plastic bottom of the cup can be removed for use as a small bowl or measuring device. Compact and lightweight, the entire Flash cooking system can be stowed inside the FluxRing cooking cup, reducing the entire 15 oz Flash to only 4.1" x 7.1" of packed size. You can customize and expand the use and functionality of your Flash by adding additional FluxRing Companion Cups, a 1.5 Liter FluxRing Cooking Pot or any other Jetboil accessories, sold separately. The Flash requires the use of a Jetpower Fuel canister, sold separately. Each Jetpower Fuel canister provides ample energy to boil 12 liters or 100 cups of water and, at only 3.5 oz., stows conveniently inside the Jetboil cooking cup. The Jetboil Flash cooking system is available in your choice of colors.

I am very satisfied with this product; but I need to make a note about cold weather use.

The instructions that come with the product state: "WARNING! Warm fuel vapor can condense in a very cold burner, spraying fuel. This can cause unsafe flaring. Exercise caution in cold weather. You can be seriously burned"

Here is what happened to me as I was camping in Colorado at 5,000 feet and tried to fire up my Jet Boil at about 20 degrees Farenheit. I assembled the parts and added water to the cup to make some coffee. I opened the gas valve and pushed the ignitor several times. Finally there was fire... on the liquid that was oozing down the side of the burner and set the plastic parts afire destroying the unit.

I learned later that the "four season fuel" wasn't four seasons in Colorado.

I bought a replacement and now keep the fuel in the bottom of my sleeping bag when it is cold outside.

Again, the Jet Boil is an elegant and useful device; but special care must be taken in cold climates.

Hope this helps,

~B

The jetboil system is a must. I have been using the jetboil for four season now and it is perfect for those who just need to boil water and rehydrate freeze dried food. The system all stores in the boiling cup and snaps together and ready for use in about 10-15 seconds. It has a built in starter so in theory you don't even need matches. The older system had a very fragile auto-starter that was prone to cracking and so in the middle of a trip you might suddenly need matches. They have since improved the auto-starter and I have found the new filaments quite reliable. The newer color change indicator is also a nice feature. It isn't necessary, as you can usually tell when the water is coming to a boil from the steam and gentle sound of the water rolling to a boil, but the color changer is a nice touch that means you can just sit back and wait for the color orange to appear on the indicator and "presto" your water is ready for coffee, freeze dried meals, oatmeal, etc...

I don't do any complex cooking when backpacking, and for those who want to do more than just boil water, the jetboil will do it, but other stoves probably are lighter and do it better. But if you want a system for boiling water and freeze dried food prep there is no more simple, reliable, and quick system. Clean up is incredibly simple as well and it all fits together in the cooking cup for easy packing (the butane cartridge also fits within the cup. The jetboil can be used fairly well without the tripod stabilizer, but it is another nice small feature that adds to the overall functionality of this product (after all, who wants to have their hot water spill over just as you are getting ready for lunch)

For high altitude Butane cartridges are not usually as reliable, but I have used the jetboil at 11,000 feet with good results.

I loved this stove at first, for lots of good reasons, but after maybe 15-30 uses, it shows weaknesses. First the bad, then the good. The non-stick(ish) inside of the canister/pot does not work well. Even with focused attempts at temp control, uneven heat distribution causes foods, such as rice and eggs, to burn and stick to the bottom. It's a pain to clean. Good luck avoiding this.

Also, while camping on a windy day, the flame blew sideways a bit and caused the outer side of the actual stove to melt (which is plastic), so when packing the stove back in the canister, the burned plastic caused chaffing of the inside of the canister. I had to use sandpaper to fix this. Still, I don't think that should have happened. It was not THAT windy, and they advertise that this stove is a champ against wind.

Finally, don't buy the coffee filter. It is terrible. I use a French press everyday at home, so I know how to go about using one. After many 7-10 attempts at making coffee, it has not once strained the coffee grinds properly. However, if you like to chew gritty coffee, you're in luck. ...It's a great idea, it just doesn't work well.

On the other hand, this is a good stove for boiling water. If you're not going to use the canister to cook actual food, this is a great stove. If you're using dehydrated backpacking food, this'll work well for you because everything you need is all together. I like that I can take this stove and not have to pack anything else as far as kitchen gear if I'm going out for a day. Well, with the exception of utensils.

All in all, it's a good stove, just don't be dazzled that this is going to be the best stove ever. It's a little pricey for what it's turned out to be worth in my opinion.

Super performance in a compact form makes this item a must have for trekking the outdoors. It's very easy to assemble and use. It brought two cups of water to a 'roaring boil' in 90 seconds. That's great efficiency that pays off in less fuel needed, and a lighter load to carry. It will also give you great results in windy conditions. The self-contained storage design takes minimal space in your pack and protects the unit well. I coupled the Jetboil Flash with the Maxpedition 12X5. They fit together as if they were made for each other.

I would add one point of caution. When putting everything into the cup for storage be careful to follow the directions. If you put the fuel directly on top of the burner you can put undue pressure on the piezoelectric igniter and damage it.

I also purchased the utensils and coffee press for this unit, and they work beautifully. Overall, this product is very well designed and constructed, and should serve you well.
