4.0 out of 5 stars This DVD Leaves Me With Just A Tempting Taste...
After reading all the reviews of the DVD I still bought it because there was really no other choice. But putting it all into perspective I have to agree with most of the reviews except that I was left "not satisfied". Why you ask...because there is never a complete performance! What was the producer thinking? Why cut off the second half of every concert...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good anthology for collectors of Tull
This is a good anthology of various songs. However, some of the songs are not the entire version (thick as a brick) and others have commentary mixed in (Aqualung) which detracts. Good dvd for collectors of Tull stuff. Not one of my better music dvd's though when compared to recent concert dvd's.

But putting it all into perspective I have to agree with most of the reviews except that I was left "not satisfied". Why you ask...because there is never a complete performance! What was the producer thinking? Why cut off the second half of every concert performance just to here the bands comments about the reunion? Couldn't the producer find a way to put the commentary AFTER the performance? Great "glimpses" of Tull, but any real fan or anyone else for that matter will feel unsatisfied at the end. I just want to lay back and see Tull in a complete concert perforance!

3.0 out of 5 stars Could've been more, February 9, 2004

This review is from: Jethro Tull - A New Day Yesterday: The 25th Anniversary Collection, 1969-1994 (DVD)
Just as I managed to find a new copy of the video on VHS a couple of yeqars before, '25th Anniversary' comes out on DVD. For the most part, it was worth the upgrade. Great sound, great picture and great music. It's great seeing a lot of the former members together and interviewed especially Mick Abrahams, Clive Bunker, Barriemore Barlow and John Evan. However it would've been nice to get a few words from Jeffrey Hammond (who is in the video but isn't interviewed) and also get the 70's band members' thoughts on the late John Glascock (R.I.P). Instead we have John and Peggy talking about Eddie Jobson's brief tenure in the band, which was funny but I would've rather have heard about Glascock since he was part of a more important period of Tull.

The videos here are fantastic, but my complaint is why couldn't they have ALL the videos available to be seen alone without the voice-over commentary? I would've loved to see the complete performance of "Nothing Is Easy" from Isle of Wight 1970 and "Minstrel In the Gallery" live in Paris 1975 (the latter would've been great being that there's barely any footage of the mid-70's Tull so it would've been a treat to see concert footage of their over-the-top theatrics). Plus, adding another performance of Tull lip-synching "Witches Promise" as a hidden extra is kind of redundant.

Despite the complaints (as you would expect from any hardcore Tull fan), this is still a good video worth buying. Happy 35th anniversary Tull!

5.0 out of 5 stars You can never have too much Tull, January 25, 2004

It's worth buying this one for the "Kissing Willie" video alone! I love Ian's bawdy sense of humor. His onstage antics and crazy facial expressions are hillarious to watch. And he looks good in tights!
As a relatively new Tull fan, it was nice to see and hear interviews with Tull members of the past. Now it's easier to keep names and faces straight.
"The Story of the Hare Who Lost His Spectacles" is much more enjoyable as a film than simply hearing it on the CD.
The various performances and videos on the DVD provide a taste of Tull in all its various incarnations. I wish it could have been longer. Give me more!

4.0 out of 5 stars Living in the past (and enjoying it...), October 22, 2004

This review is from: Jethro Tull - A New Day Yesterday: The 25th Anniversary Collection, 1969-1994 (DVD)
I have recently purchased the DVD after not listening to Tull for few years, so this definitely was a catalyst to re-enjoy this great group. To add even more spice, I have seen them live in the Caesaria Amphitheater a couple of months after buying the DVD and man - they (Anderson and Barre) did not lose their touch.
The selection of music in the DVD is good but limited only to those tracks they played in various TV shows over the years before the MTV era. Since you don't expect a 5.1 sound mix you're not disappointed; However the editing could have been better; This DVD tries to be both a documentary and a collection of full tracks but at the end of the day it's neither.
Still - the mix of tracks is good enogh to urge you to take out their great albums such as Aqualung, Songs from the Wood, Thick as a Brick etc. and enjoy their great music.

This could have been so much more. Why the interviewer asked the questions he did is a mystery and why weren't more of the band members included. It comes off looking ameteurish and self conscious and the boys could have done better for their silver jubilee. The bonus video section is the best part of the package. Hopefully, one day, we'll get a warts and all Jethro Tull rockumentary, this isn't it.

Folks, This is a must have if you are a Tull Fan. If you missed "The Hare that Lost his Specticles" from the Passion Play Tour, this DVD contains the full version of the play/movie from that tour. Highly reccommend this DVD.

Excelllent documentary of the band's beginnings and where they all are today. I was disappointed what few songs were played constantly were interrupted, and twice the sound track was not in synch with his singing. Overall? Best part i enjoyed was the reunion of ALL 30 of the past and present members of Jethro Tull. Some of the extras were kind of silly, but i suppose you'd have to be British to understand. If you are looking for an addition to your Tull dvd collection, this one would fit in nicely..But if you're looking for Ian Anderson's music? Id look for another title from the band.

3.0 out of 5 stars Let me bring you memories of Tull, December 1, 2006
This review is from: Jethro Tull - A New Day Yesterday: The 25th Anniversary Collection, 1969-1994 (DVD)
This is an interesting retrospective of Jethro Tull's journey for the first 25 years. The conceptual format of vintage video excerpts in between clips of band members past and present for a reunion in an English tavern comes off as ideal. "Witches Promise," shown here through a 1971 performance from Top of the Pops will make viewers say, "Oh my God," and a lot of the vintage footage from the first few years is sometimes comical as you see Jethro Tull starting out as a folk-rock outfit trying to find their harder edge, which they eventually did with many years of commercial success. Jethro Tull's best decade was the 70's, musically and artistically, and this DVD should include some more concert footage from that era than what is actually provided. The clips of "Nothing is Easy," "Minstrel in the Gallery," "Auqalung," and "Songs From the Wood," are the highlights, but of all the parts from their 1973 Passion Play tour, the only clip included here is the only dull portion of that whole concept album with "The Story of the Hare Who Lost His Spectacles,"(never quite understood that part anyway)and the excerpts from Tull's transformation into the 80's seem less interesting, especialy the video for 1989's "Kissing Willie," which only serves as an embarrassment for Tull having to accept that such a great band made such a terrible song and video. The reflections and bits of interviews with Ian anderson and his bandmates is always worth a listen, and overall this anniversary collection is a must-have edition for the true Jethro Tull fan.
