About the Artist

The well respected Minneapolis-based experimental pop group returns this spring with their best yet. Two years in the making, "Jetpack Blues" follows Polara’s critically acclaimed three albums and ep released on Interscope. The band has an established fanbase and national name recognition after several years touring with Spiritualized, Garbage, Belly, The Wallflowers and other artists of national stature. They’ll be doing local and regional dates this spring, regional and national touring this summer. Bandleader Ed Ackerson’s profile will be high this year due to recent production work with The Jayhawks, Matthew, Juliana Hatfield, Mason Jennings and others.

5.0 out of 5 stars Jetpack Blues, May 5, 2003
By Steve Shaw (St. Paul, MN) - See all my reviews
I must admit that I bought this album the first day it came out and was a little disappointed. I thought the first half was strong but the second half was weak. It disappeared into my CD collection only to resurface recently and boy could I have been more wrong. Upon second listen the first half is even better than I remembered it and the second half is just as good as the first half. "Jetpack Blues" has been a favorite live number of mine for a long time and comes across very true to form on the record. Other highlights include the track that was originally supposed to be the title track "Is This It" and the introspective masterpiece "Obsolete". I've found that sometimes the CD's you have to work hardest at are the one's you end up enjoying the most and that is certainly the case for me and "Jetpack Blues". All in all a fine effort by Ackerson and company and while anything that Polara has released should be in your collection, make a special effort to pick up this one.

This is a fantastic piece of work. I've been starving for some interesting, innovative pop music for the last couple of years and Polara has delivered. Nice job.
