This book inspired me to read the whole series!,

This review is from: The Jeweled Spur (The House of Winslow #16) (Paperback)
I was first introduced to Gilbert Morris when I ordered the first "Cheney Duvall MD" book from a mail-order book club. Later, I purchased "The Jeweled Spur," because I enjoyed the other Gilbert Morris book - I hadn't heard of the "House of Winslow" series until my purchase arrived. I finished reading about Laurie and Cody and looking at the geneology chart included in the book, and just had to read the rest of the series,(based on the local library's availability)as well as new additions. Keep up the good work!

I found this book to be an exceptionally wonderful story. It was one of the best books I have ever read! I have read the entire series and found that they are all my favorite books! Every one is a wonderful story you will find hard to put down! Laurie Winslow decides to she wants to join with Buffalo Bill Cody when she finds that staying in college for a while longer isn't going to happen. She is in for wild surprises and stardom. Cody Rogers is an escaped prisoner but did he really do the crime they've accused him of? When he joins the show as well, will love bloom? Well you will have to read to find out for yourself!

After reading "The Jeweled Spur," I was very pleasantly surprised by the Christian undertones to the story. It was an easy an enjoyable read. I would recommend it to anyone looking to read a simple, Wild West-based story from the good 'ole days.

The book stars Laurie Winslow, who has dreams of going off to college to learn how to write. Once the money runs out she decides that she doesn't want to go home. She knows how to do some pretty fancy horse riding so she joins up with Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show as a trick rider.
Cody Rogers has a huge crush on a local girl, but she has feelings for another man. Cody has a run in with that man and winds up in jail. When Cody and a friend break out of jail he now has to stay on the run. He gets lucky and runs into Laurie whom he previously knew and she gets him out of a scrape and lands him a job. Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show becomes more and more popular and Cody and Laurie become worried that Cody will be recognized by the authorities. Will they be able to prove that Cody was innocent, or will he be punished again for someone else's wrongdoing? I enjoyed this book. Laurie is such a strong independent character. Gilbert Morris weaves an interesting story in this book. I love how much it shows us to truly have a walk with Christ.

good but,
This review is from: The Jeweled Spur: 1883 (The House of Winslow #16) (Paperback)
i enjoy morris's books very much. the problems i have with them is that they all have happy endings (at least the ones i have read so far). and all the women in the stories have to have a man to be happy. these are independent women he writes about. they will put up with anything. that is the way it should be i suppose, but it does not resemble real life. i wish he would give his heroines a little more backbone. the women sit and wait for the man to decides he loves them. how about one time they do something that areal life woman would do, like lainie to tell cody to go elsewhere else instead of mooning and hurting like a whipped puppy. he should show there is more to him than rampant hormones for any woman who will put her body up against him. he doesnt reason things out, just feels them out. lainie deserves better then this.
