5.0 out of 5 stars The Future Depends on Love, March 28, 2007

This review is from: The Jeweller's Shop (DVD)
Those are the immortal words of the mystical Jeweller in this film, played wonderfully by Burt Lancaster. Based on the international best-selling book by Pope John Paul II, this film has an excellent cast of Lancaster, Olivia Hussey and Ben Cross. It gives a realistic portrayal of the struggles and the triumphs in the marriages of three couples, showing that the the union of man & woman in marriage is that mysterious mix of freedom, love, sacrifice, and grace. It is a touching and lovely film, while still portraying the sorrows and challenges in married life. The Pope had some very positive things to say about this film. It does make one want to go read his book, which I have read, and it is a little jewel itself. This is the second to last film for the legendary Burt Lancaster.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply outstanding portrayal: the power and dangers of love., March 5, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The Jeweller's Shop [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Screenplay written by Karol Wojtyla (later Pope John Paul II). It is a thought-provoking examination of love between a man and woman and of the choice between fidelity and infidelity which will mark their future. Two couples' experiences are contrasted with great effect through the romantic relationship of their two children. While this is a profound film, it is by no means slow. The acting is very good (Hussey is superb), and the plot moves nicely to its conclusion. I would recommend this movie for anyone living or contemplating a love relationship. If you can, see it with the one you love; if you can't, see it yourself. Either way, you won't regret it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A profound and moving film on love....., August 21, 2002

This film is one of the best and truest films on the subject of REAL LOVE! I've been watching it ever since I was a kid and though I didn't understand it, it has certainly shaped what I believe and hope for in a relationship. The Holy Father is astounding on his insight to human beings and their souls! The play that this film was based on is even better!
JOHN PAUL II, WE LOVE YOU!!!!!!!
