Very impressed with this book--wish I had had a copy when I first started beading decades ago. Clear instructions written in a pleasant and relaxed manner. I am most impressed with many of the very numerous tips provided that come only after a great deal of experience creating, making and marketing beaded items.
If I had to have just ONE basic beading book, this would be it.

The problem with the "For Dummies" series of books is that they are too simple for advanced users, but leave out the incredibly basic information that is essential for beginners. "Jewelry Making and Beading for Dummies" is no exception to this rule. This book provides supposedly step-by-step instructions for making a number of jewellery projects but glosses over many of the details that are essential if you have never used some of the techniques before. For example, I purchased this book because I was interested in pearl knotting. Although this book does include a small section on this topic, it does not include instructions on how to attach the clasp to the string. It merely tells you to do so.

Other drawbacks of this book are that the pictures are in black and white (with the exception of a small number of colour plates), and techniques are demonstrated using difficult to understand illustrations rather than actual photographs. Oh, and none of the projects in this book are particularly exciting either. Many of them depend on being able to obtain a specific type of bead to look any good, which my recently acquired experience has taught me is easier said than done.

Tons of information and I understand that organizing such a wealth of knowledge is a daunting task. I found that I was flipping around to find the infomation where I thought I had seen it previously and the index was not very helpful there. References are made to other sections of the book but states a chapter only and not a page specifically. Overall, great book and have used it alot for a reference.

Heather's use of humor and wit made this book very easy to read. I love the illustrations and found them to be useful. I have used the book for a quick reference and for detailed how-to instructions. I am inspired and ready to get beading!

This is a great reference for beginners to the jewelry-making hobby such as myself, although I found the book to be slightly disjointed in the way chapters and sections were ordered. The information was good, nonetheless, and I have returned to the book often for assistance in learning the process of making jewelry.

I checked out 50 jewelry making books from the library and this is one of only three that I decided I wanted to purchase for my personal book collection. It covers a huge amount of information in detail as well as giving good outside sources to go to for further instruction. This book has been a great resource for me and I highly recommend it for both beginers and more experienced jewelry makers.

I really liked the layout of the book. I didn't understand much about beading before reading this book, but it answered lots of questions. I feel that it is well-written and laid out very well - especially for a novice.

Love this book, it has everything i was looking for, tips, techniques, gems explanation. And also have samples in color pages! Great for beginners!

This book gives readers tips and techniques on jewelry making and beading. The step by step directions with diagrams were helpful to show what the authors were trying to get across to the readers. The book also gives projects that you can try along with color photos of what the pieces are suppose to look like when completed. The last section of this book gives tips on how to turn this hobby into a business. Overall, it was a very informative book and I would recommended buying a copy. But, I did find a few things wrong with it. There were a few typos in the book and two of the chapters are the ten reasons or tips for something or another but there are only nine reasons or tips.

I bought this book because I was very inerested in making jewerly. The book tell you everything you need and why you will need it. It has helpful in tips and even give you other suggestions to make it different than in the pictures.
You can refer back to it and see where you might have gone wrong. I woud tell people who want to learn how to make jewerly, this is a wonderful book
