Book Description

September 2003
Over 40 churches are featured in over 700 vivid color photographs. The many churches in Los Angeles County are hidden treasures waiting to be discovered -- or rediscovered. Both newcomers and longtime residents of Los Angeles are often unaware of these beautiful buildings they pass daily.

Visitors to Southern California rarely miss Universal City, Disneyland or Hollywood Boulevard, but leave without realizing there is so much more beauty here to see -- the art and architecture of our churches.

These treasures, most built during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, also tell the stories of the faith and determination it took to create places of worship in the community.

A locator map for each church is included in the hardcover edition along with an index complete with an exterior photograph, address, phone numbers and email address.

This review is from: Jewels in Our Crown: Churches of Los Angeles (Hardcover)
One of my favorite pastimes is to discover the architectural heritage of our neighborhoods. "Jewels in our Crown" brings to light many of the important houses of worship in Los Angeles for which I have a much greater appreciation.
