Jewish Holiday Songs for Children

I bought this album for my son when he was three. He loved it, and still does (he is almost 6). He loved it so much I bought another copy and gave it to his pre-school teacher so his whole class could enjoy it. I have heard them singing a number of the songs with great enthusiasm. We have a lot of Jewish albums for kids (everything from Paul Zim to Uncle Moishy) each of which are good in their own way. But for very young children (ages 2-6) it is hard to beat Rachel Buchman.

My son's preschool teacher recommended this and it is a wonderful collection. The music is compelling and enthusiastic without being sappy or saccharine. The songs are interesting but not too complex for young listeners to follow. Her song choices are dead-on. My son quickly began requesting this when we drove and began singing along even to the Yiddish songs.

I second everything the first reviewer wrote. Rachel Buchman's voice is lovely and her tone is very appealing to young children. In addition, her music is of a high caliber, so that adults can actually enjoy listening to it (even if your child likes to listen again and again, as mine does). The Sukkah song is especially infectious; we sang it constantly last fall. The songs with Yiddish capture a special quality without seeming foreign; ideal for living room dancing, car entertainment, or pre-school enlightenment. We have purchased her "Song of Seasons" CD as well and listen periodically to both.

From the second my daughter first heard this CD when she was 2 years old, she has been addicted to it! She used to stand transfixed in front of the stereo. Now, two years later, she still listens to it multiple times per week. Rachel Buchman completely gets small preschoolers, her diction and interactivity make these songs understandable and fun for kids and adults alike. As an interfaith family, I love that she uses Hebrew and Yiddish, but intersperses it with English so everyone can understand what she is singing about. My daughter has learned more about Judaism from Rachel Buchman than just about anything else we've done. Also would be a great resource for Jewish Sunday school for preschoolers. Rachel Buchman's other albums (although not religious) are also treasures of similar caliber.

My 3 year old loves to listen to this CD in the car. This CD has been great to teach her (and me!) about Jewish holidays. I enjoy the songs too!
