Anyone interested in the vexing question of whether the Jews are a nation, religious group or somehow both should buy and read this book. It consists of essays/letters by Rabbis of every persuasion and secular scholars of all sorts on this question. By far the best thing ever written or published in the subject. In true Jewish fashion, it provides hundreds of answers and raises even more questions. A latter day Talmudic tractate and classic. It will be a thousand years before anything better is written.
