4.0 out of 5 stars From the Back Cover, June 9, 2010
This review is from: Jewish Sects at the Time of Jesus (Paperback)
In nontechnical language, Marcel Simon discusses such well-known groups as the Pharisees and Sadducees, as well as lesser-known movements, including Zealots, Hemero-baptists, Genistae, "Hellensits," and Nasaraioi. Of special interest is the Judaism of Alexandria and its most distinguished representative, Philo Judaeus. Simon suggests ways in which these Jewish sects are related to the early church and to dissident early Christian groups.

Marcel Simon (1907-1986) was a professor at the University of Strasbourg, France.
