This review is from: Jewish Life in the Middle Ages: Illuminated Hebrew Manuscripts of the Thirteenth to the Sixteenth Centuries (Hardcover)
This book describes medieval life using the details in illuminated manuscripts to illustrate each point. For example, there are several pages on tablecloths; a whole section on tables and chairs. It takes a bit of work on the part of reader to figure out how to use the book (flipping from numbers in the margin to the referenced figure, and following the footnotes), but the details of daily life are well documented. Especially useful for people doing research or reenactments.
