For those of you who are new to the real music from Puerto Rico, this CD is an excellent primer and a real treat. First of all, Miguel Santiago Díaz (and this entire album) was recently nominated for a grammy under the folk music category!
Second, Miguel Santiago Díaz is one of the great singers of the second generation of recorded Jíbaro singers. Third, if you thought salsa was native puerto rican music...sorry, it is not! Musica jíbara and the melodies in this album are the real thing! This album will help you understand why Puerto Rican music (musica Jíbara) is so wonderful as it is diverse. As a collector of Puerto Rican music, I truly recommend the album because it represents a few things, including: 1) Excellent arrangements of traditional jíbaro music; 2) A rebirth in the singing and playing of traditional jíbaro music; and 3) The first time ever that a traditional Puerto Rican Jíbaro singer was nominated to win a grammy...This album is a real treasure...this is a solid buy!

I am 40 yrs. old and my parents listened to this type of Jibaro music. Jibaro...like it has a negative connotation. Well the truth is as we grow older we learn to appreciate the beauty of music.,the lyrics, the sounds, the meaning. This is by far a true depiction of folk music from Puerto Rico, but many from other countries enjoy it as well. This is a CD that every Puerto Rican household should have because it is classic, it provokes cultural and Puerto Rican pride. It is music that makes you feel it in the blood, in your heart and in your bones. I bought one for my father,for my husband and for my step father. You can listen to tracks of this CD on Smithsonian Folkways Recordings and enjoy for yourself small tastes of jibaro music. Go out and buy it...it really belongs in your home and it will take you back to where you should never leave. You can even get the lyric at Smithsonian Folkways Recordings. You will never hide this CD away and others will beg you for a copy. tell them to go buy it. It superb and it is something to be proud of. A 5 rating is still too little. The price is reasonable and the pleasure is enormous.

Growing up in Puerto Rico,listening to this heart felt music. Finally living in the states i get to hear and cherish our music, reminding us of our culture and heritage .. I thank the label for bringing out the music that define us puertorican...

This is the music I grew up with and I love. I am so glad that some company finally took the initiative to bring the Puerto Rican music to life.

This is a wonderful CD that brought back memories of many years ago. So many of my friends really enjoyed the selections and asked where I had found this CD!! I had the opportunity to listen to it prior to purchasing and I am so glad to have purchased it. I would never have found it in the stores.

Excellent collection of music from Puerto Rico. These are the sounds of the old time music our parents heard when they were young. It takes us back in time. Love it!

Jibaro Hasta el Hueso is a must have to any Jibaro or Trova music colector, also Desde el Balcon de mi Vida (another CD), I know Miguel Santiago and he's one of the best Jibaros/troveros puertorriqueno. The best Jibaro/Trovas Music I got.

I love this type of music. The old time Puerto Rican music really gets me thinking about the days when I was a kid living in Brooklyn,N.Y. and listening to my parents play this music on the record player and dancing in the house.
Good stuff that I now love playing when we have some New York Ricans over for dinner.
They sometimes want to hear more modern Puerto Rican music but I could listen to this Jibaro music all day. :)

This is beautiful music and if you're not familiar with the culture of Puerto Rico this can enlighten you. My folks were from Orocovis and my Father was a musician. These were his genres.

A must have in your Jibaro music from Puerto Rico. The songs are very uplifting and are great for a gathering.
