This little steamer works well on synthetic fabrics, but is very disappointing on cottons. After major steaming on cotton shirt, the finish was not smooth and crisp and most of the wrinkles were still intact. Had to resort to regular ironing. A bit disappointing since I primarily purchased steamer to get away from the labour involved in ironing cotton garments.

This works as promised. Gets the wrinkles out. Heats up fast. Too big and heavy for travel, as advertised, especially with todays restrictions on airplane luggage.

Great on sweaters!,

Works great on sweaters, is sort of difficult for everything else. I was trying to get away from ironing, no such luck! I've ended up using my iron for most things.

About a million times better than ironing,

Since I bought this, I no longer dread washing my clothes because I no longer iron them. The only thing I use the iron for is creasing pants, and if I had a really good vertical surface for it, I would use the steamer for that, too. (The closet door I steam against has inset panels, not flat.) It works for me very, very well on everything, including heavy wool and suit jackets, but not quite as quickly and flawlessly as they claimed in the Hammacher Schlemmer catalog, where I first saw it. On the other hand, this is a portable model, so I can take it with me when I travel, which is a pretty great trade-off. It's one of the those tools that, once you have it, you can't remember how you ever lived without it. I always feel tres chic and polished because I always give my clothes a last minute steam before I put them on if I see any flaws.

Tends to spit. Difficult to get the angle correct, and rarely powerful enough to have much of an effect. I liked the idea of steaming clothing instead of ironing, but ended up getting an iron after trying this.

This little steamer is a powerhouse. I got rid of my floor model steamer and now only use this one. It uses regular tap water which is nice, and I can pack it in my suitcase for traveling.
