It's not that hard to cut a piece of plywood to the 24x48 dimensions and staple gun some batting and fabric over it. The over door hooks are at Lowes for less than $1.00. And you can put in a coat hook for the hanger hook. A darn sight better than paying $100 for this!

Great for creases,

I bought the Jiffy 2000 steamer and also purchased this steamboard. It is a winning combo!! I don't ever iron anymore. This board makes steaming so fast and fun. I get great creases in all of my clothes because you press the steam head down on the board making creases. Works like a charm. Would highly recommend to anyone and especially those who already own the 2000 steamer but say they can't do creases and are disappointed. I used to have a closet full of partially wrinkled clothes and I would iron every a.m. Now because steaming is so easy, I immediately iron after washing and everything in my closet is all wrinkle free and ready to go!!

jiffy board,

Works well but a bit overpriced for a carpet coverd board. The shipping cost really eats up the pluses for this product

Jiffy 0892A Steamboard Vertical Garment Ironing Board
Not only is it cheaper making your own steamboard by "Make Your Own"'s (See Review) instructions, but here are a couple other options, both requiring the over-the-door hanging hooks and a clothes hook to hold the garment hanger (it can be over-the-door style or screw in)*: Wal-Mart and Kmart both carry tabletop ironing boards (usually wood) either with short wooden legs or with short collapsible (sliding) undercarriage. Some come with an ironing board cover already on it; if not, they sell them right next to the board. Either way, they're very inexpensive. Just take off the legs or under-carriage, screw on over-door hooks, and pick your door!* If it's a closet door, you can hang it on either side--to use when door's open, or if on outside, take it down and stash it inside closet (with your steamer). If you're going the up-and-down way, be sure depth of over-door hangers is a little larger than door, & line or wrap hooks with a few layers of soft cloth to protect door. Make a bumper pad of cloth & glue it to the bottom back of the board to protect door from scratches there (& cut out scraping noise). *Since these boards are usually 36-42" long, if you're short (like me) you'll need to add an extension/drop between hanging hooks' pre-drilled holes & the 2 screws put into back of board. These extensions can be made of folded twill cloth tape, found in store's Sewing `Notions" Dept. This tape is very sturdy, can be tied through hangers' holes & around screws in the board (gluing an end of tape over screw heads) thus protecting door at both ends. Use this tape for bumper pad at board's bottom, too. Affix clothes hook/hanger over or into door between hangers at top. An Ace or TrueValue Hardware Store may carry the boards AND the 2 kinds of hanging hooks--"1-Stop-Shopping"--the 'green' thing to do!

The Jiffy Steamboard is a "Must Have" accessory for effective steamer usage. The board is large, heavy, and well-constructed. When using the board, I hang it on a door. The included hanger and fabric backing help make quick work of garment steaming with little chance of scalding oneself. I deducted one star because of the product weight; it would be lighter if the substrate was plywood rather than particle board. Mounting and dismounting the board from the door is thus a bit more difficult. For effective garment steaming, this product is recommended.

Necessary Option,
This review is from: Jiffy Steamer Steamboard 0892A (Kitchen)
This is a must have for steaming clothes. Last year I got my wife the 4000 steamer and noticed that she hadn't been using it much. She said that she just hadn't had the time. However, upon receiving the board, she exclaimed,"Now I can use the steamer!"

My wife purchase a steamer and of course had to have a board to steam on, so I (and a friend) decided we could make one easily. The board turned out fine but was too light and did not serve her purposes (surprise, surprise) This Jiffy board is very solid and well built and worth the money.

It works as promised and is sturdy and will last forever. That said, it's pricey for a piece of plywood with cloth on it. If you had a couple hrs and half a handyman mind / the tools, then make it for like $10.

When I purchased my garment steamer, I didn't realize that using a steamer board, would be necessary to steam garments easier. It comes with a hanger and that holds the garment on the board, which creates a stable surface to steam the garment.

The board works well for clothes that need a heavier pressing from the steam. You can pin fabric to the board and the over the door assembly makes it convenient to use in different locations. It was easy to assemble. Only oddity is that the screws that attach the door assembly are too long and poke out on the front surface of the board. Since this is at the very top of the board, this has not been a problem for garments on hangers. Overall very good accompaniment to the steamer but not for use with all fabrics since it intensifies the action of the steamer on the clothing. Must be used judiciously. Very pleased with its function and design.
