A much-loved family favourite, September 4, 2011
This review is from: The Jilbab Maker's Eid Gift (Paperback)
I would like to recommend this child's fiction book. I picked it up some years ago by chance at an Islamic bookshop and it looked like a rather average kind of book. I didn't realise the treasure I would find inside masha'Allah!
It has become a much-loved family favourite...
The story is of an old lady who has dedicated her life to sewing beautiful jilbabs for the poor and the queen of the region, who imprisons her because she refuses to sew her one as a gift, as it is the law that all citizens must present the queen with a gift. The queen listens to the old lady's kind advice and begins giving gifts to those around her, which eventually leads her far and wide in search of the poor. In the end, the old lady finds the queen tired and scruffy after completing her work on the night of Eid, and finally presents her with her long sought-after jilbab.
We are now going to try some more of this author's works and are hoping to find more treasures among them insha'Allah!
