Editorial Reviews

''Coregeous'' with Jill Miller (Yoga Tune Up) is a specialized layer-by-layer strength building program that helps you to overcome core and abdominal weakness caused by underuse, over-training, injury, or scar tissue. It restores facility and function to your entire torso by improving biomechanics, mobility, and stability to the multiple tissues surrounding, supporting and enveloping your spine and core.

4 Main Sequences Include:
- Core Re-Form provides a deep tissue massage to release knots and trigger points while activating connections to key respiratory muscles that support your spine and core.
- Get COREganized establishes proper spinal alignment and breathing patterns by using all of your ''Coreso'' muscles to improve access to the innermost abs including transverse abdominals, diaphragm, iliopsoas, obliques, and more!
- InCOREporate builds a strong lower back and revitalizes the muscles of the ribcage to stitch the seams of your torso together from top to bottom. Awaken your quadratus lumborum, lattisimus dorsi, serratus anterior and more!
- Get COREgeous challenges your balance and engages all of your core muscles to master stability, agility and fluidity while challenging your balance in different gravitational planes. The entire body works together as one seamless unit.

Plus 3 Specialty Sequences! Tubular Core Activation establishes proper breath mechanics, while Abdominal Massage improves overall circulation and locates abdominal knots and adhesions that prevent functional core reactivity, and Abdominal Churning shows you the spellbinding possibilities of ''coreso'' mastery. Props used: Stability Ball, YTU Therapy Balls, Soft Sponge Ball, Yoga Block (props can be substituted with tennis balls, blanket, and large book). Jill Miller's Yoga Tune Up is a fitness format that creates strength, flexibility and balance by challenging the body from every conceivable angle. Using a distinctive array of exercises, poses and specialized techniques, YTU transforms the functionality of your movement to help you live better in your body.

5.0 out of 5 stars More Core from Jill Miller. March 28, 2012
I've liked the core work in Jill Miller's DVD programs for years. This new release is the best presentation of her method I've seen, with innovative moves and honed focus. It's so smart, concise and to the point. Jill doesn't address just the abdominal muscles, she includes the relation of the psoas with the respiratory diaphragm as well as the obliques, rectus abdominis, lower back: the whole central supportive structure: increasing strength, flexibility, and physical fluency.

The main workout is in 4 progressive sections (more or less 20 minutes each) that are easily adaptible to stand-alone, shorter, routines:

Section 1: Small-ball massage (introduction to the anatomical context), starting with the upper traps and working down to the lumbar spine and the quadratus lumborem, where the key core connections are located. (Jill's tune up balls, or the pinky balls, or even tennis balls will serve, although the rubbery alternatives form a better grip with the skin.)

Section 2: (the organization/"tubularization" sequence) involves integration of the psoas with the other core muscles (stabilization), including the obliques. There's even some effective shoulder opening/engagement (the body doesn't move in isolated segments). The magician's assistant series is a lot of fun, and tough -- love the use of the block to support the pelvis, bringing balance into the stabilization process.

Section 3: Lower back "incorporation" with a squishy ball, including locust, ending in a moment-of-truth megaplank. (Lower back is so often neglected in core programs -- not here.)

Section 4: The stability ball segment is the first big ball material I've liked in years and years. So smart and purposeful.

In the saturated universe of core-based videos, "Coregeous" is a real breath of fresh air - an exceptional example of the potential to cover new territory. Jill Miller (whom I affectionately refer to as "Jiller" among my fellow yoga teachers) has worked a DVD miracle by expertly presenting the principles of physical fitness training with an authentically yogic sensibility. It's like Buns of Steel meets Mula Bandha (hmmm... or something like that...).

The 2 disciplines of "yoga" and "fitness" can sometimes be at odds with one another when it comes to their theoretical underpinnings - like oil and water, fitness tells us "no pain, no gain", and yoga says, "be the love." But, Miller's unique method of physical conditioning - called "Yoga Tune-Up" - combines numerous aspects from multiple systems in a highly accessible and engaging manner. Her programs always include elements of innovative strength training and neuromuscular conditioning; authentic yoga practices, principles and techniques; self-massage therapy for deep-tissue release; a playful and curious attitude; and a genuine sense of humor. All of this (and more!) blend together into a very fun - and very challenging! - exercise potpourri, which distinctly elevates all of her programs above the typical standard for home workout routines. And never has this been more true than with "Coregeous."

What's most impressive about this particular video is that Miller has managed to merge these two worlds without dumbing down, sacrificing, or diluting the bold intention of either. On the fitness side of things, there's certainly plenty of intensity - for those seeking a good butt-kicking workout, you'll find it, particularly in the "Get COREgeous" segment.

Coregeous is the latest Yoga Tune-Up (YTU) release from Jill Miller. As with Miller's other YTU DVDs, Coregeous features Miller teaching alone, mostly instructing live (although she incorporates some brief voiceovers here and there). There are seven practices on this DVD: four "main" practices and three "bonus" practices. Each practice can be used as a stand-alone workout, but the main practices in particular build on each other--i.e., Miller advises that you shouldn't proceed to the next segment until you are comfortable with the preceding one. Finally, Miller utilizes a variety of props, including her YTU balls ("PINKY" Balls are a good substitute for these; tennis balls are less ideal but will work), a yoga block, a small squishy ball (sometimes called a Pilates ball, such as Body Back Ball), and a larger physio or stability ball.

For each of the practice segments, Miller provides a brief introduction (1-2 minutes), then moves on to the workout. The entire DVD is very well-chaptered, so once you have watched them, you can easily skip the intros. I have broken down each segment in detail below. (Note: the times I listed are without the introductions included.)

MAIN SEGMENTS
1. Core RE-form (13.5 minutes)
This section uses the YTU balls for a massage designed to increase access to the breath. I've had a lot of prior exposure to Miller's ball work (both via her Tension Tune Down CD series and her prior DVDs, such as
