5.0 out of 5 stars After all of these years, it still remains one of the best!
I am 17 years old, so this cd was released when I was 12 years old when it was released. I just decided to buy it about a year ago, and what an impact it made on me! Any fan of the movie Clueless will know the sing-songy chorus of the peppy classic, "Supermodel", and most of you will have a slight memory of that jangley little ditty about a lesbian tryst,...

3.0 out of 5 stars Satirical Songs for those whom do and don't like to think
Good Satire and enjoyable beats but don't think the whole album is like the two super hits SUPERMODLE and I KISSE A GIRL.

I am 17 years old, so this cd was released when I was 12 years old when it was released. I just decided to buy it about a year ago, and what an impact it made on me! Any fan of the movie Clueless will know the sing-songy chorus of the peppy classic, "Supermodel", and most of you will have a slight memory of that jangley little ditty about a lesbian tryst, "I Kissed A Girl". However, the fun doesn't stop there. Jill's songs are written in mostly story form, which gives a very intimate feel to her music. My personal favorite is "Vrbana Bridge", a tragic tale about two lovers who suffer the loss of one another during the Bosnian War. The melody is extremely catchy, and the message will melt even the hardest of hearts. This cd is fun, thoughful, and beautiful. Definately on my top 10 list.

5.0 out of 5 stars Secret Genius, January 11, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Jill Sobule (W/ Supermodel) (Audio CD)
When this album first came out I used to listen to it in the car all the time, not really aware of who she was or how famous she was (not at all, it turns out). Then I didn't listen to it for ages, and a couple of years ago, when I finally got musical taste, I heard it again and thought - she's a genius. Fantastic, witty lyrics, melodic guitar and diverse song subjects (from political Romeo-and-Juliet style war stories to teenage dreams of stardom) mean this album is essential listening. Each tune is a little story, and Sobule has an original take on life that should keep you hooked. Look out for her other albums too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Jill Sobule- best f'cking artist ever..., January 14, 2002

The songs on this album are as musically diverse as it gets. From the sweet, sad ballads like "Houdini's Box" and "Vrbania Bridge" to the pop-punk "Supermodel", every song is another treasure that seems to be getting better with time. I've had this CD for about a month, and every time I listen to it, I find another secret Jill is telling me. Anyone who listens to female vocalists will love this CD, it's pure poetry.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Lyrics and Sound, March 16, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Jill Sobule (W/ Supermodel) (Audio CD)
Jill Sobule is, by turns, hysterically funny, gently charming, and mournfully serious ("Vrbania Bridge") on this CD. Engaging, a sort of bouncy pop sound to most of the faster-paced pieces, with a light touch to her voice that I can only call friendly - as if she's saying, yes, this is about enjoying yourself. The lyrics are wonderful, from the humorous digs of "Good Person Inside" to the dream-like twists of "Trains". A wonderful album.

4.0 out of 5 stars She's gonna sing, you're gonna listen!, January 16, 2005
By
This review is from: Jill Sobule (W/ Supermodel) (Audio CD)
Jill Sobule is the singer/songwriter best(only) known for the semi-novelty song "I Kissed a Girl". This album contains that song plus 11 or 12 other songs she wrote or co-wrote. (The song "Supermodel" is a bonus track that was not on the original version of this album. It was from the Clueless soundtrack.) Jill is a quirky songwriter, with a very original style. Most of the songs here are humorous, although more "crack a smile" funny than "laugh out loud" funny. This is a very good album, which should appeal to fans of offbeat girl singer/songwriters.

5.0 out of 5 stars So good, September 16, 2005
This review is from: Jill Sobule (W/ Supermodel) (Audio CD)
Jill Sobule has been on my radar since the early 90s. She is a wonderful story-song composer, wtih wit and grace filling every facet of her lyrics and music. She should be much better known.

5.0 out of 5 stars Probably The Best Female Artist EVER!!!!!, July 23, 1998
This review is from: Jill Sobule (W/ Supermodel) (Audio CD)
This is the kind of album that makes you laugh, I agree, but there are songs here you can really relate to. Like the sister theme in Magaret, or the first-lesbian experience in I Kissed A Girl, or weird dreams like in The Resistance Song. These songs are truly human.

I'll admit it- I bought this CD for "I Kissed a Girl" and "Supermodel". When I was done listening to those two tracks, I actually sat down and listened to the rest of the CD. WOW! Jill is such an underrated artist (like Natalie Merchant, Aimee Mann, etc.). I love the juxtaposition of child-like innocent music with real world sensibilities. My favorites on this album include "I Kissed a Girl", "Karen by Night", and "Houdini's Box". Rock on Jill!

5.0 out of 5 stars great lyrics, great voice, great melodies, GREAT ALBUM!, December 13, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Jill Sobule (W/ Supermodel) (Audio CD)
This album is so much more than "I Kissed a Girl." (Although that's a hilarious, rebellious, sincere song) Those 3 adjectives might as well describe this album as a whole. It's such a shame Sobule isn't a bigger star; she sure deserves to be. Very heart-felt, creative, melodic album. Definitely recommended.

Jill Sobule, singer/song writer, is a tremendous talent. She is witty in her lyrics and her songs are great. This CD has been around awhile but remains one of her best.
