First Album I ever bought.......,
By Snorri Wolfersson (INDY,IN) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Jim Stafford (Audio CD)
I get sort of weepy when I see this album. It truly was the first album I ever bought with my own money. I think "Swamp Witch" is a classic song in any genre. I am still able to recite the lyrics from start to finish. It puts you in a place and a time that seems real, yet seems ethereal. "Last Chant" is just flat out funny in a socially conscious manner. "My Girl Bill" is twisted and funny. I remeber my Mom turning to my Dad as we listened to it on the car radio and saying, "They can't say that on the radio !" When the punch line hit she just slowly shook her head and feigned digust. That's a wonderful reaction for a twelve year old boy to see. "Spiders and Snakes " is one of those goofy songs you like when you're twleve because it makes you feel older, wiser, and confused all at the same time. Heck, I'm 42 now and I STILL love the guitar riff in that song and I still laugh at his predicament. "Wildwood Weed" takes the cake though. Funniest pot song ever...(Well, maybe "Devil Went to Jamaica" by David Allen Coe has edged it out) Even Mom and Dad laughed when it was played on the radio. Old Country Classic indeed! Great funny album. 5 stars just for all the laughter it brought me during a strange and unsettled summer of my youth.

Excellent Vinyl LP, only makes sense to convert it to CD. Wildwood Weed, Mr. Bojangles, Spiders and Snakes are great songs IMO.

I've been searching for this album for YEARS. I'm so relieved to see they reissued it! I have it on cassette (somewhere!) and haven't been able to find it, and nowhere, I mean NOWHERE ELSE can you find "The Last Chant". It's an absolutely brilliant song. Thank you to whoever re-released this!

Seems like a pretty good value for the money. A little entertainment deja vous is worth something I guess. Should be able to get the value out of it real easy. Many other entertainment items cost much more.
Order was processed and shipped in good condition and very timely manner.

Purchase of New merchandise: great sound and condition of great songs. As the original music was released many years ago, I enjoyed singing along with each and the trail down Memory Lane which accompanied the Moments. Seller Stated that the CD was 'New' and I found no flaws with sound or packaging condition. Schedule was comfortable and expected of delivery receipt! I receommend to everyone to remember those who shared so much with Us, and brought the times of the day to light with their expressionism and talent.

The Early 70s,

This review is from: Jim Stafford (Audio CD)
During my youth in the early 70s, 8-track was still very much alive(egad!)Radio was the most widely available media. As teens at the time, we were discovering our 1rst cars, even '63 Rivieras, my 1rst car, had one that worked. It was through Radio that we were exposed to music of that era. Ergo, we bought our Vinyl(Albums) based upon what we heard & liked on the radio. Footenote: Vinyl(L.P.s,Albums,Records) were usually played on a Parents Turntable Stereo System(they could afford one)while they trustingly left us alone(Yeah, Right) to "watch the house" while they visited Aunt Peg or something. 'Nuff History? O.K.
In this era, "Classic Rock"WAS born. From KISS,B.T.O.and Thin Lizzy to "one hit wonders". J. Stafford belongs here! From silly(Spiders & Snakes) to chilling (Swamp Witch)to a statement song of the era(Wildwood Weed)Jim Stafford's-Greatest Hits CD definitely deserves a place in the (Album) collection of anyone who was a part of that time. TIP: Unruly Grandkids? Memorize "Swamp Witch" & repeate it to them in a quiet moment. To ALL those who survived that era- Goodnight & GODSPEED
