I've been playing guitar for 40+ years and I will tell you that the book is excellent. Tabs are spot-on accurate. I only wish they would include a "Wolf Marshall"-type CD with this book. The pieces, especially Machine Gun, are so extremely busy that a note-for-note CD is almost a must. However, if you are extremely familiar with the way the songs are supposed to sound, and have the recorded version handy, this book will show you the exact notes to some of Henrix' most complicated pieces.

I love this album, which was my reason for getting this book to help me figure out some of the complicated solo licks I have stuck in my head.

The transcription is EXTREMELY detailed.

However, Remember: With a recording like this, reading the transcription note for note is very difficult, unless you have an incredible attention span. Hendrix's music is more of something you learn by ear, jamming along for hours until you start to pick out the exact licks. This book may help, but be ready for confusion when trying to follow along in the solo for machine gun.

The Band of Gypsys has alotta history surrounding it. The bottom line is that Jimi had his mojo workin' with all cylinders on New Years Eve 1969. These were songs not part of any prercorded Jimi Hendrix album, and this was live. HE pulled off some of the most amazing playing of his short career on this release, and the transcriptions are 100% legitimate. I've been playing for quite a few years, and I bought this album as a teen. An extremely influential work for me and zillions of others. The transcriptions are all good, I wanted to see how certain passages were played, and they are on the money. Its almost like reading a novel...or a history book. Definitely recommended.
