Sunday Morning at Woodstock,
This review is from: Jimi Hendrix: Live at Woodstock (DVD)
If you thought Hendrix's performance at woodstock was only the Star Spangled Banner and a crappy version of Purple Haze, you are mistaken. Hendrix's performance at Woodstock was blazing. He rolls throuh several jams, both worked out & instrumental, in addition to many lucid performances from his standard repertoire. Hendrix is not quite as focused than as at the legendary Band of Gypsies shows at the Fillmore east in 1969/70, but to think that he rolled into the chaos of Woodstock on a Sunday morning and did this is almost amazing. Most of the crowd just sat around smiling, shaking their heads, grooving out. This was no doubt a special moment for most everyone there. I always thought that Woodstock, though memorable, seemed somewhat random & thrown together, but Hendrix restores Cosmic Order with his performance. You can almost feel time leap forward here and there as he spews those now familiar yet ever new sonic flares (you can't really call them "notes" when they are played by Hendrix).

A Must Have With Greatly Improved Audio and Visual Angles,
By LBloom (Hollywood) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Jimi Hendrix: Live at Woodstock (DVD)
There are two disks - the first one contains the enitire performance, excluding "Hear My Train". The camera angles are pretty much from the front and mostly on Jimi with closeups of his face and guitar, only occasionally glimpses of the band. Pretty much on Hendrix throughout. Also, disc one interivews key figures in the Woodstock Festival performance before the concert and again afterwards.
The second disk is supposed to be "original" footage in B&W with lots of Hendrix from behind. I ususally avoid this one unless you just like to look at Hendrix from the shoulder angles. Disc two includes an interview with Hendrix which had something to do with his part in the black community or something more racial related that seems pretty out of date. The second disc does feature "Hear My Train" but only with still - lifes of Hendrix. All things though with the digital options on this DVD the sound quality sounds much improved over previous releases of the same concert. I would have to agreee, that this is a must have for any fan's collection.
