3.0 out of 5 stars Something was in his brain for this night, July 26, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Jimi Hendrix: 19 Great Performances - Featuring Jim Morrison (Audio CD)
The versions of voodoo child, purple haze, and fire are hendrix, but not amazing Hendrix. Little Wing and Good times are especially good, while Red House flat out stinks. The Jim Morrison tracks are not as great as i expected but are not bad at all. Morrisons lament is strange and disturbing and i wonder what and how much he had to drink. The sound quality is less then average but all in all it's an allright cd that catches to great artists together.

3.0 out of 5 stars A compolation of great music but Horrible sound quality, February 26, 1999

This review is from: Jimi Hendrix: 19 Great Performances - Featuring Jim Morrison (Audio CD)
Great performances from great musicians. Jimmy Hendrix plays with some of the best musicans in the buisness on this two disc set. I just got frustrated because of the extremly poor sound quality on the discs. but over all it captured some great music.

Okay, what we have here is another rehash of the Royal Albert Hall'69 concert, Scene Club jam NYC'68, and Lonnie Yougblood material from '66 (which, BTW, doesn't contain a single note of Hendrix at all!). This is definitely for the Hendrix completist, and not the casual listener. Quality isn't bad, but it is a bit of a hack job. Still, don't expect this to spend much time in the changer!

3.0 out of 5 stars Hendrix-Morrison concert, May 24, 2000

This is a classic concert with Jimi Hendrix and Jim Morrison. I first heard it at an old friends house and I had to laugh listening to Morrison(you'll have to listen to the CD). Hendrix was not playing in his best ability, but I personally enjoy sitting down and listing to ANY Hendrix concert. If you are a collecter it is definetly worth getting a copy of this CD and if you are a fan of Rock music from the 60's(like I am) you will enjoy this.

1.0 out of 5 stars Certainly not the worst, but not good, either, October 23, 2001

I actually have a collection of Hendrix songs that is worse than this one. I will not name it, but instead will concentrate on this.
The production values of this CD bother me more than the sound quality, really. There is no information on the venues, performers (I know I hear drums and bass, and even Hendrix couldn't play all three at once), or the recordings themselves. If you want good live Hendrix, get something else. If you want something to scare your friends with, this should do the trick.
The recording of Purple Haze is just plain bad. Little Wing is OK, but disappointing. Voodoo chile is not terrible. It is interesting to hear him play Sunshine of your Love. The tracks with Morrison are, without exception, weak.
Fire sounds a little hurried, but is still pretty strong, despite pretty weak production quality. The recording of Wild Thing is exactly what you'd expect, except not as good. Ok, it's bad, incomplete and sounds like a soundcheck number that was never intended to be heard by the public.
I know I said that all of the Morrison numbers were weak, but I think Morrison's Lament deserves a special note. At 3:30, this track is 3 minutes too long. Korn has a better song full of obscenities, and at least it sounds deliberate. Hendrix does nothing impressive on this track, and Morrison is indistinct and incomprehensible when he is audible.
The second disc opens with a recording of Red House that is subdued, but not altogether unpleasant. The rendition of Uranus rock isn't bad, considering the state of the first half, but it still isn't particlarly good. Outside Woman Blues sounds like it should have been a warmup for another song. Room full of mirrors is kind of neat. The rest of the second half doesn't sound like Hendrix at all. It never approaches he level of virtousity or energy. The musicians are not bad, but if you paid to hear Hendrix, you will be disappointed.
The big difference between disc 2 and disc 1 is that, while the first is certainly Hendrix, and certainly has a number of moments that are not the worst of his career, the second is infinitely more pleasant. There are no drunken Doors members screaming obscenities or mumbling quietly. Nobody sounds drunk. The music is pretty clearly identifiable as music.
All told, this is a pretty weak album from a pair of incredible performers. I know that even the best have bad nights, but that doesn't mean those should be labled "Great" and released on double albums.
If you get this, you will probably not like it, unless you are a diehard historian with no sense of musical aesthetics.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not Bad For An Un-offical Release, September 10, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Jimi Hendrix: 19 Great Performances - Featuring Jim Morrison (Audio CD)
I bought this in the late '90's and enjoyed it for a couple of years. At some point, I sold it and some other CD's for cash. I regret doing so because there are some rare tracks on the disc, such as Outside Woman Blues and Uranus Rock, not to mention the sub-standard but historically relevant live cuts featuring an inebriated Jim Morrison singing. These tracks I believe were from a performance at a club in New York, where some big names had assembled to hear Hendrix jam with an impromptu band. Morrison was there, and somehow got on stage and made a complete fool of himself; it is disturbing and funny all at once. Hendrix was not in top form either. This is a novelty and a fun listen, but shouldn't be played with children around. The cover photo is also a mistake, a reversed photo. There are so many crude unofficial releases out there from rogue labels, and this is one of them, but it contains 19 tracks varying from bad to decent.

1.0 out of 5 stars Warning: Terrible Jimi for sale, September 6, 2001

I didn't think it was possible that there would be a Jimi Hendrix album that I would advise against, but then I picked up "19 Great Performances." "Sunshine Of Your Love" isn't bad, but the rest is. The sound quality is poor, and the performances sound tired at best. I don't even think most of the 2nd CD is actually Jimi. There is the appeal of hearing a drunken Jim Morrison, but it's hardly worth the pirce of admission. I gave this away to a friend of mine, and I wouldn't take it when he tried to give it back. Buy "Live At Woodstock" instead, which might be the best live album ever.

1.0 out of 5 stars don't believe everything you hear, August 25, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Jimi Hendrix: 19 Great Performances - Featuring Jim Morrison (Audio CD)
Horrible album, save your money. The quality of these recordings is not that well, the only stand out track is Hendrix's rendition of "Sunshine of Your Love." I threw away this cd (if you really want to know) Oh, and if you listen carefully to Morrison's Lament, I truly wonder if that was Morrison. I doubt it, The lyrics to that song are so simple, only two, perverted lines. Not even artistic. Save your money, if you want hendrix, buy the studio albums, or Woodstock, or Fillmore. ...
